Why the irrelevant comments?

I have had to disapprove several comments over the past couple of days. If your's happens to be one of them, don't take it personal. I don't think you understand how it's supposed to work so I will post the rules as they where posted by Kyle.

How to Leave Awesome Website Comments!

When offering a comment on a fellow member's website we suggest keeping in mind a few simple things.

Comments that include questions to the author will allow them to reply to you and allow for further engagement on the page. Feel free to ask questions about the content that you feel others reading the content may also ask.

Your comments should be focused on the content and be specific to what the content is about. A comment is your unique opinion on the content and should contain a minimum of 50 words. We check all comments for uniqueness, so please be unique and original. The more thorough you are with your comments, the more thorough others will be with the comments you receive. This is a true pay-it-forward system and you get out of it what you put in.

View the page. In order to submit a quality comment you need to read the content that you are commenting on. Within the area to offer comments you will have a number of ways to open the page to view in a new window. Once you read the content, come back to WA and add your comment within the SiteComments area. You will earn 1 credit for every comment you leave.

I underlined the important point above.

This does not include things such as:

"nice site"

"lots of useful information"

"I am also a WA member"

If I wanted comments like these, I would disable Akismet and just let the spam in.

I usually pass on more articles then I end up commenting on because sometimes, I just can't add to the conversation, I do not try to force a comment. I keep looking until I find one I can relate to.

Some of us take the time to post thoughtful, relevant comments on other's site because that is what we expect in return. Please, read the article and comment on the subject mater. That's what the system was set up for.

If you can't say something relevant, don't say anything at all.

I don't use the comment feature. I discovered when going through bootcamp the same things you were just talking about. And then I read your comment about providing a reason for rejecting a comment. Not for me. Besides i get massive comments from the traffic i receive I really hope everybody will listen to what you have said. Sadly it has been said many times AND SOME PEOPLE STILL DON'T GET IT.

Though I have not used the system yet, your point about looking for those articles one can relate to is exactly spot on. Sometimes when others read someone else's article and then comment, they of course want you to reciprocate. That's what the system is there for.

That you don't leave comments back is totally understandable because if you read an article and have not gotten anything out of it, how can you leave meaningful comments?

Even before this system was perfected to what it is now, I have gone in and did what is supposed to be done, left comments, likes, share, etc, but more often than not, I would not get a return favour. I realize that sometimes my writing gets deep and aesoteric. I don't mean that but it does. It's probably why I don't get many hits when I do write on my website.

I don't use the system (right now because I've had nothing new) but because it seems I put people on the spot do exactly what you express what you don't do if you can't get into someone's article.

I agree.

I got one yesterday that was total garbage and then they asked me to please comment back on their site.

It got me wondering. It was classic spam, even the grammar and word choice looked like it came from a translator program. The gravator however doesn't tell you who the WA member is, so I couldn't find them.

So I was wondering, was this person a real WA member? Or has some spammer figured how to hack in and leave comments?

1

No, it was a WA member. The system is set up so you can only see their gravitar. People are not reading the rules.

Ironically, when you disapprove a comment, you are forced to give a lengthy reason for your disapproval!

Hey Steve! Thanks for sharing this informative bit. I really appreciate it! Happy I stopped by too (being a while).

Hope you have a good night dear friend...

Long time no see my friend! How are you?

1

Yes, you can say that again. And I've been doing well. Thanks for asking! How have you been (hope you're in great health)?

I am healthy and enjoying life, so I really can't complain :)

Totally agree! No matter how much training is out there on this topic, it seems some people either miss the point, miss the training or somehow don't understand what they are being told. It's a shame when we have to disapprove comments that we have earned through making our own comments. But I'm sure it's just something we need to keep reminding people about....with new people joining the community all the time, it's bound to be an issue that keeps coming up!

2

You're absolutely right. Always new people joining (which is great)
so these things are bound to keep happening. I just felt like ranting :)

2

Rant away!!! It's part of the process that helps those new members to keep informed...! ;-)

2

Preach Steve!

2

Makes sense and once the concept is more universally known it should improve the quality.

Haven't done that yet as I am still getting my sites up, however I expect this comments system is a great way to learn new things, from sites and blogs which we may have never searched for in articles or blogs, othewise. Pretty cool.

2

I couldn't agree with you more Steve.

3

You must be getting tired of my rants...lol ;)

2

I think I rant more than you. Lol

1

thank you for restating the expectations

sometimes having it said by someone else can help clarify for those who did not get it with the initial instructions

all the best,

3

I can only assume that some people read the instructions about as good as the read the articles they are commenting on.

2

Exactly!!!
