How Long Until YOU Start Seeing Traffic?

One of the more popular questions from new webmasters is "When will I start seeing traffic?" We are all taught to be patient and just keep at it and the traffic will come. Anyone can be patient for a month or two but patients starts to wear thin for many people after 90 days or so.

Where is my traffic?!!!

If you have done your keyword research and you are consistently creating quality content, the search engines will find you but you have to give them enough time. Can you imagine how much content Google has to comb through everyday? And more is being piled on by the minute!

You have to sow before you can harvest.

Publishing articles is kind of like planting seeds. Some will bear fruit while others will rot and die. You can't predict either way so you have to just keep planting. In some cases, 90 days is not nearly enough time to know.

Keywords can become hot!

When I find keyword phrases with less than 50 competing pages I usually jump on them. They can become hot phrases months after you publish and you could find yourself in a great position when the search volume picks up.

I am now just starting to see some good daily traffic for a product review I wrote 9 months ago! It brought in NO traffic for 8 months but all of a sudden, the search volume has increased significantly.

My point is, you cannot gauge how well your site is doing based on what you published this month or even last month. You may be getting little to no traffic today, but the article you are in the middle of writing now could bring a flood of traffic months from now.

Build trust with the search engines.

Having your articles listed on the first page of Google can be a very powerful thing but it's a privilege, not a right. You have to prove yourself to them. The internet is full of "Fly by night" website builders so you need to prove that you are in it for the long haul.

Getting that first article on the first page of Google is the toughest. It gets much easier after that. Trust me :)

great blog. I really like the analogy of planting seeds.

I have an analogy for almost every situation you can imagine. It helps put things in perspective sometimes :)

I wanna cry. Your words are just so beautiful. It is definitely about developing trust and demonstrating patience. Well said!

Thank you for the kind words Gloria. Much appreciated! :)

Words to live by. Thanks so much for the encouragement Steve. Success is for those in it for the long-haul.

I can't even add anything to that :)

I've had my site up since August 1st and have 71 keepable visitor comments and a lot of spam to my site. And I have not started any social media yet. I know that's not a lot but maybe that will give you something to work with.

To be honest, I hardly even think about social media. It seems like a temporary boost of untargeted traffic. I prefer to invest my time in articles that have the possibility of being found by people who are actually searching for the information I'm providing.

Well I'm told you'll get a lot more traffic but I don't know for sure.
Thanks,
Ed

Thank you for the information, I know that time is the missing element.

We live in a world of instant "almost everything". 20 somethings grew up in that world. So I understand that it can be frustrating waiting to see the fruits of your labor. It beats the heck out of punching a time card everyday in my opinion though :)

Hey Steve, this is a great article. I also have experienced this too.

Does the thought ever cross your mind "What if I had given up?"

LOL....OMG..Steve you know how many times that crossed my mind. LOL, I always think wow, If I didn't write this article, I wouldn't have achieved this or that. What I've learned is that sometimes you just gotta trust in what you're doing. If you stand behind and believe in what you're doing then it's worth fighting for. :)

Well said! :)

Great post, Steve. Thanks for your insights, and this is a question I sometimes get from bloggers. How long is a piece of string?... Is usually my answer!

Not everyone will achieve the same results in the same time frame because it all depends how much effort they put in.

Thanks. Neil

Did you ever watch that BBC documentary " How long is a piece of string?" Great stuff :) Some of us will take longer to get results but you will get them if you just keep going :)

Thanks Steve,It tells me that if you put the work in it may take time but if it's quality it will get recognized. Marty

Exactly. People need to be thinking further out than 90 days.

If you produce quality content and work hard it will one day

Absolutely. The key is to keep going even when it seems like it's never going to happen. You never know when you'll have a break through but it will happen if you don't quit!

Thanks for encouragement. Just we need to write great rich content and hopefully we will get real visitors:)

If you are persistent enough, it WILL happen :)

Good, I like it despite not seeing any ships with goods in this ocean of Internet. But I know I need to write and write and write....
