1.5 Months Checkpoint - Learnings and Next Steps.
Happy New Year, Happy New Decade everyone. I know i know... we are already almost 2 weeks into the new decade....Its amazing how fast time passes when we are having fun!
I hope everyone's new decade has been a blast so far...
As for me, I am now almost 1.5 months into my journey here at WA and here's what I've done so far...
- Started and still progressing through the courses
- Started my site
- Posted an average of about 2 posts a week.
- Provided some comments/feedback and received some
- Signed up to some affiliate networks but have not found any products to sell yet.
- Got rejected by some affiliates I applied for.
- Got my site indexed on Google - with one of my posts ranked on page 5 (the last time I checked)
- Setup my social media profiles
So... how is it going along?
To be frank, I was posting a lot more frequently in the first few weeks when I thought to just write whatever topics that were related to what my site is about - to get ranked. But as time passed, I am finding that I am running out of ideas of what to write. I know there are lots of help content on here about how to find ideas on what to write, but I am just feeling that I do not know enough about my niche (if I can call it that) to write about. I am finding it difficult to find new ideas for keywords as well. Looking back at my posts, I am finding them to be unstructured and there's not really a single theme to what I've been posting. I may have chosen the wrong niche?
But I am not deterred... and at this point, I am re-considering this niche that I've started on.
When I signed up, I knew this was going to be a long term commitment and there will be learnings and that its not gonna be a straight path. But all this brings about growth and I can say I know a little more now than I did a few weeks back.
I thought I just shared a little about what I've learned so far....
Learnings So Far
- First, I realised I need to get clear about why I am here... Why am I building my site?
- Thinking through the niche before putting down effort to build the site is crucial. I am not sure if everyone agrees, but I think we should be thinking and getting a pretty good idea up front about how the site that we are building is going to get us to the reason why we are here in the first place. If it's about making money, and our site is about taking care of pets, or learning how to play the instrument, it'd be good to think about our path to monetizing it... up front.
- To do that, I'll want to spend some time thinking about at least 50 keywords that I can immediately start working on once before I even start my site. All these are somehow going to be coordinated and driven towards the goal for the site. No scientific reasons for the 50 here but I just think if I could plan up to 50 keywords, that would have given me a good exercise in thinking through whether I am really going to get somewhere with that niche that I've chosen.
- But at the same time, depending on where we are on our journey, we should not think so much about it until we become paralyzed by it. For example, if I am completely new to Wordpress or managing a website or writing blog posts or SEO, it is still worthwhile to not overthink a niche and start working on it knowing fully that we may revisit the niche. We will at the very least, learn the technicalities of building a site, writing a blog, looking for keywords, understand the flow of work. Its just that for me personally, I kinda have some background on the technical side of things - and
I was originally contemplating whether to write this blog or not but decided what the heck... and to just write. I'm normally a reserved and quiet person and I try to keep my opinions to myself mostly... So this is another thing that I am learning here... about the community spirit that I see here and how everyone freely shares what they learn and all the encouragement.
Hope that my post here does not offend anyone and here's wishing everyone a very successful 2020 and beyond.
best regards,
steve.
