Domain Transfers - Know Your Rights
In my last blog (https://my.wealthyaffiliate.co...) I wrote about the fantastic support that we have at WA. I was recently caught up in a bit of a scuffle with Hostgator about transferring my domain back to WA. I must have tried six or seven times to get them to unlock my domain so that I could transfer it back.
Clearly they either lacked the technical expertise or they weren't familiar with the ICANN regulations, or both. One of their responses to me was that my domain was locked for 60 days, in accordance with the ICANN regulations (https://www.icann.org/resource...):
Note the bit in parentheses which spells out an exception to this rule. No matter how hard I tried to explain to them that I am trying to transfer back to the original registrar, they just didn't seem to get it.I'm pleased to say, however, that I finally won this war of attrition! I got an update on my Hostgator support ticket to say that they have unlocked it at the registry and that I am now free to continue with the domain transfer.
So far, so good! I'll keep you posted...

Internet marketing is a nightmare. But somebody's got to do it! Best wishes and tons of empathy to ya buddy. Problems with Hostgator is about the only problem I haven't had!
Hostgator has a customer portal which allows you to generate the EPP (Transfer) code yourself. This wasn't the problem, though. They kept on telling me that everything was fine on their side and that the domain was unlocked. However, because the ICANN 60-day rule automatically kicked in, a WHOIS searched showed the status of my domain as "clientTransferProhibited".
That meant explicit action on Hostgator's part due to the exception to the ICANN rule; they had to manually clear the status at the registry.
The guys at WA support knew this all along and said that that's exactly what Hostgator needed to do. But do you think they'd listen???
