Serendipitous or Coincidental?
WA couldn't have come at a better time.
A little background: So I used to "dabble" in website building/designing. I never had a successful blog or anything, I just liked to create the layouts and work in photoshop type programs.
Anyway, I started a new job shortly before joining WA. When I started this job, my main goal was to learn my way around the shop and get procedures/work instructions typed up for all the machines I was running and for all the products we make (it's a woodworking shop). My second goal was to become familiar with the online store, etc.
Meanwhile, a company that was supposed to be building our new website was slacking and not making my boss happy to say the least...He asked for my opinion so we reviewed the site. It was choppy and unprofessional. The company he had hired claimed they had built hundreds of websites, yet all through the review they just kept telling my boss they couldn't do those things he wanted because of the "code". What?!
I was shocked. It was a bunch of crap, and believe me, I spoke up. My boss logged me in as admin and I showed him that it was all possible. They were either lying or didn't know, which would mean they were lying about building hundreds of websites.
Bossman was leaving town for a few days to go pick up a machine, and told me I had free reins with the website and to see what I could figure out. Naturally, I jumped in.
With my new-found Wordpress knowledge (yeah, the new website was being built in Wordpress...coincidence?! I think not!), I was able to cruise through the design of the site. It was ready to launch in 3 days, and officially up and running within 1 week. Not only was I able to show off my new skills, but I'm also now working on SEO for the site to get the company more traffic and ultimately more sales. I've also been given the reins to start a company blog & wrote my first blog post today about one of our products (woohoo!)
It's still so strange to me to get to do what I love at work, and then do it all over again on my personal site when I get home.
In my boss' words, it is all very serendipitous. I prefer coincidental...serendipitous is quite the mouthful. But either way, he's right :) Thanks WA for the knowledge that came at the absolute best time.

That is excellent, Stefanie, sometimes we are in the right place at the right time with the right knowledge and even if we haven't got it all sorted then you cannot beat on the job training. Well done and do keep us posted. All the best as you get into it.
