My post ranked on Google in 96 hours!
Introduction
Anyone that's followed me here on WA knows that although I've been attempting to do affiliate marketing for a long time, I've never had any significant success with it.
I am aware of course that this is my own fault because I've never properly learned how to do it, and I've never committed all that much time to it. Even without that, there were times a few years ago when I was making a couple of hundred dollars a month.
I should have built on that, I could well be earning thousands a month now if I had. But I let the pressures of life get in the way and came up with all the excuses... Everyone has heard them before so I'm not going in to them.
But earlier this year - only a couple of months ago in fact - I decided it was time for a change and this online life was something worth chasing. I did loads of research, joined various Facebook groups and watched a load of videos on YouTube. And I also joined WA.
Why I Joined WA
I joined WA because I was looking for a way to get good WordPress hosting and the WA platform is excellent value for money - particularly when it's combined with the training and community. Frankly, $49 a month is good value for up to 25 Managed WordPress Websites (50 if you include the Siterubix domain ones) - other providers will cost you easily as much if not more.

Since joining Wealthy Affiliate and migrating my websites to the Siterubix hosting platform, my traffic has increased by about 100% (it's still only relatively small on all my sites, but it is going up each and every week - and pages that I wrote literally YEARS ago are starting to see traffic again). I think this is down, primarily to the hosting speed. The Siterubix PageSpeed system seems to be fantastic - my Google PageSpeed Insights score has gone from 84 to 99!! I'm not even kidding. I don't know how that's even possible.
The funny thing about that is the WA control panel says I should remove some of my plugins because more than 5 is slowing down my website. I can't remove the ones that are there because there's functionality that relies on them. But in any case, with a PageSpeed Index of 99 I don't think it's really all that necessary anyway.
96 Hours and Already In Search
But, and this is the reason for writing this article, I setup a whole new domain the other day (on the 23rd August in fact - screenshot included to verify this!) and spent a couple of days setting it up with the new WordPress theme and getting everything how I wanted it to look.
I published an article on there on Friday evening (UK time). When I checked Google today, using the keywords I had initially researched using Jaaxy and Google the site is already ranked.
It is, to be fair, only ranked on page 6 of Google for that keyphrase (is that a new terminology?) - but everyone I ever spoke to about affiliate marketing says it will take MONTHS (often as many as 6 to 9 of them) to get onto Google.
I've ranked on Google (not highly, but it's a start) in less than 96 hours. That's 4 days. On a site that is only 5 days old itself!!!
A 5 day old site, with a 4 day old article and it's already on Google. It's not page 1 of Google to be sure, but it's a start.
How Have I Done This?
I am aware that ranking on page 6 of Google for a keyphrase is not a massive success in itself - but what it shows to me is that with proper planning and proper execution and the right training great things can happen.
I followed the training here at Wealthy Affiliate. Much of it, as I mentioned earlier, I had some idea about already through years and years of trial and error. More error than anything. But the training goes over a number of things, one of which is how to use Jaaxy.
The training - which is also backed up by various other videos I've watched on YouTube recently as well - talks about 'longtail keywords'. I'm going to call them keyphrases instead. Because that's what they are.
Most people who type a search into Google these days are going to do it as a question, not just a couple of keywords. The reason is simple - the more you tell Google about what you're looking for the more relevant the results it gives you will be. And this plays right into our hands if we do our research well.
Think about how someone is going to ask Google when they're looking for your content and then write your article to answer that question. You can rephrase the question a number of ways when you're building up your content so that Google has a good chance of understanding the different ways the same question might be asked.
But don't concentrate on keywords. You need to be thinking about keyphrases. Keywords are so 90's. So Alta Vista. Google is much smarter than that.
And when you start thinking about keyphrases you're writing highly targetted articles within your niche that don't have that much competition. It's the area of the WA training that talks about 'low hanging fruit'.
Go for specific low hanging fruit keyphrases rather than broad keywords and you'll have a lot less competition, meaning you get onto Google quicker and rank more easily. Many pages of high quality keyphrase targetted articles will get you ranked.
The content I've managed to get into Google for in only 4 days is quite a specific keyphrase, but it's highly relevant to my niche. So in theory, it should start to drive traffic to my brand new site, and the more people that come to my site and actually read the article, the more Google will trust me with traffic to other pages.
It's a win-win.
