I seem to have been having so many problems regarding my site recently, and I can't really solve them, I just keep going deeper and deeper into issues.

My question is wit

Did you switch your site to SSL? If so it can take some time.

I can't speak to the indexing number dropping since I've had that happen myself and still trying to figure out why. But I've noticed the redirect response from fetching when I do not put a "/" at the end of the URL I am trying to fetch. Like this...

Hope that helps solve at least part of your question.

Hi, Summerly, could be a problem with your browser cache, particularly if using Google Chrome, which shows the cached copy of your page or post instead of the new updated one (silly question, but did you click on the update button after making the changes?)

Try clicking CTRL + F5 (or Cmd + R in Mac) and see if that works. If not, if you have WordPress caching plugins on your site, try emptying all caches. Finally, if that doesn't work, deactivate all caching plugins, if that work you need to set up the plugins correctly by going to settings of the particular plugin.

That's about all I can suggest, hope one of them work for you, and best of luck.

Yup, I was clicking the update button :) Thanks for your ideas, I will try them out!

Similar problem for me recently. I was using Safari to edit the css or change font colors etc and viewing the results in Chrome incognito. I found Chrome was ignoring the updates and needed the entire browser cache to be refreshed for any CSS change. I just used Safari or Mozilla Firefox to review CSS changes now instead of Chrome. Not sure if this is your problem, but just a hunch it might work for you.

This sounds like the exact same thing I am having issues with, I will try to use another browser and see it that works, thanks so much!

You might be having a problem with one of your plugins. shut them off and check to see if that helps. If so turn them on one by one to see which is the culprit.

It might be that your theme has become corrupted. I would recommend switching to another theme, say Twenty-Sixteen, then deleting your current theme, reinstalling it and then switching back.

I will try that, thank you

Didn't seem to work unfortunately

OK, it was worth a shot! I'd also suggest giving WP Edit a try https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-edit/ and see if that resolves the issue.

Ok, Ill try that next, thanks!

Would my problem have anything to do with the fact that I updated Wordpress itself today?

It's possible, have you tried switching to another theme to see if it's a compatibility issue? You can always switch back!

You could also try turning off all your plugins, to see if one of them is causing the issue.

I have recently noticed that the number of URLs I had indexed in google webmaster tools has started to drop. It used to be almost even with the number I had submitted but now i

If you have started to use canonical URLs, the number of overall URLs will have dropped. Also, Google can decide to make some of your URLs canonical as well, so it's not always within your control. It's based on their evaluation of your content.

Thank you. I have looked up canonical urls but I still don't think I understand it, could you explain it to me?

A canonical URL is one that governs othe URls that are similar. Say I have a review site and many of my posts are extremely similar (due to formatting, etc), so to appear as 'duplicate content' to the indexing robot. You can specify a canonical URL to govern how all of those are seen by the robots so that you don't get hit with duplicate content penalties. I have this set on some sites where I do a daily progress diary and all of the posts are pretty much the same day to day with little variation.

OK...I think I understand it a bit better now. Ill try to see what I can do to fix it. Thanks!

You're welcome.

Oh sorry, one last question. The urls that are not longer indexed, does that mean they will not appear in a google search list of results?

Correct.

This might be hard to explain but I was hoping someone could help. On my posts, at the bottom, is the option to go to the last post or the next post. This option is in the form

Hi, I have never tried to do this but I would look at the help provided by T1967. Irv.

have a chat with CHRISCOYLE he did it :-))
Al and Tania

Thanks, I'll check

:-))

That is part of the theme and I would think you can't change it.
However there might be someone in Tech Support that can help you out.
Why not have a Home Page with your Featured Image?
Seems a lot easier.
Robert

I was thinking it may be something with the theme and I would not be able to change it. I will ask tech support then, just in case. Thanks
