Very Very Surprising
7 months ago I published a blog post and I didn't do any SEO for the post, no keyword, no meta description, no tags, I did nothing besides publish the article.
Today I would spend some time to do SEO for the post. First I looked for a keyword I could use. Took a snippet from the headline and put it into Jaaxy. Jaaxy liked it, I got a green "great" then I was ready to do the SEO.
But first I typed in the quoted keyword, I was curious and wanted to see my competitors, but I got a big surprise when I saw my post was number 1 out of 6.700 results.
Then I typed the keyword without quotes and I was almost shocked, my post was ranked #1 out of 12.500.000 results.
It was done without any SEO at all, without any images or screenshots, only old-fashioned text (there is headline and subheadlines though)
Is SEO not as important as we think? Or what do you think?

Well 7 months is a long time from my perspective. I think the fact that you took a snippet and jaaxy liked it means you accidentally used SEO while writing which is lucky i suppose. my posts are only a month or less old so I can't offer much towards SEO usage yet but I am utilizing it.
Yes 7 months is a long time, but I've never checked before, maybe it was also ranking high after 3 months.
