So Far So Good

So what have I done so far in building my business to escape the rat race of being told what time to be somewhere, what time I can eat, what days I can have off and believe it or not asking to go the toilet via Skype, I kid you not...

My first website was decided upon mainly by my dog.

I was struggling with the niche as in what can I write about. I ended up talking to my dog called Reg about it and then it hit me, write as if I was Reg so my blog was born:-

https://blogbydog.com/

That of course is my dog called Reg! Cute little bugger but his taste buds leaves a lot to be deserved.

I have had experience in setting up WordPress prior to landing here at WA though the blog was a complete mess to start with. If any of you guys are stuck with a theme I would suggest getting a very simple one to start off with. My one is Airi a simple CV type theme.

KISS is good here. Keep It Simple Stupid!

So the theme is set up, privacy page done, and now for the articles/posts. All of which I have kept to the minimum requirement as set out here. 1000 Words etc etc by using the template provided here.

Now comes the research part as to what to write about. Yes I use the Jaaxy to dig down into the searches per month and the QSR. Though I have found this other site which really helps me in choosing Low Hanging Fruit Keywords.

https://answerthepublic.com

As an example of what this website can provide you with is shown in the picture below after putting the keyword "Dog" in there:-

As you can see loads to choose from and work with!

Moving on I then needed to Validate my blog with Google both the search console and analtics.

For some reason the SEO plugin was not recognising and so therefore not validating my site. I had this same problem before though could not remember how to do it. Then I found the lesson I needed right here in WA by a chap called @bothewebguy. The lesson can found here:-

This post was written way back in 2013 and still works in 2019, thanks Bo.

I have also checked my website load time via Google Page Speed insights and proud to say it stands at 100 out of 100

Also to help promote the site I have joined Facebook Groups and Dog Forums.

So what have I acheived in so little time:-

  • Paid to become Premium member. If you have not I recommend you do.
  • Selected Niche, thanks Reg.
  • Set WordPress theme.
  • Written Posts
  • Validated
  • Check my page speed in Google
  • Reading and studying to succeed in my business
  • Joined Group and Forums in my niche.

Thats about if for now. Please if you need any advice then shoot me a question and I shall be more than happy to help.

Wishing you all the best Jason

Hello Jason,

You are making good progress Jason.

Derek

Excellent progress Jason. Thanks for the share.

You are well on your way!
I love your title and the origin story is awesome!
The only advice I can give is:

1 Join some dog-related affiliate programs, but don't overpopulate your site with links. They work really well if included in reviews, etc.
2. KEEP GOING!

Take care!

Gwendolyn J

Thanks Gwen,

Yes I agree with not overpopulating the site with links.

As of yet there are no links at moment to an affiliated site so good so far again! :)

Thanks very much for the information it is really helpful I learnt something new from it
