This morning I was scrolling on Linkedin and I thought that I would want to share this news with you all. Even on my days off I come across something exciting that I need to share on here.
On Thursday 10th July, Instagram and Facebook are now going to appear in search engine results.
What does this mean? If your social media accounts are public, the captions you use, alternative texts, bios , carousels, and yes even reels could be now indexed and searched on the web.

What does this mean for us as marketers?
The content we produce on our social media platforms is no longer tailored to our feed. It is now part of our own SEO strategy. If we don't optimize what we post, we are leaving discoverability on the table.
Linkedin user Ella Dawn Burgess gives tips on how we should be adding or improving our meta social media strategies to leverage this update:
- High-quality, keyword-driven captions.
- Alt texts that describes your visuals that speak to your niche.
- Clean and readable graphics with purpose.
- Bios that go beyond aesthetics- they should be searchable.
As digital marketers, this is a huge opportunity for us. We will be found beyond the feed based on what platforms we are using for our brands. For example, I use Instagram for not my actual brand, but running my cats instagram account (petfluencer). When I found out about this change, I immediately thought wow, my petfluencer account on Instagram will be noticed beyond landing on people's feeds. My posts will be in search engines.
Overall, this update teaches us that we should now treating our Instagram and Facebook content like mini landing pages- because now that's what our public platforms are now
