When I first started paying attention to trends, I assumed that they worked the same everywhere. If something was trending , it was trending - right?
But I quickly learned that each platform has it's own personality, and trends show up depending on where you are.
On Instagram, I have seen and noticed trends that feel a bit more polished and curated. Content tends to be more aesthetically pleasing and when I jump on a trend, I find myself refining it to match my overall feed and brand.

Reels trends do matter, but there is still a strong focus on visuals, storytelling and maintaining a cohesive look.
TikTok on the other hand, feels a lot more raw and fast-paced. Trends move quickly, sometimes within days and there's less pressure to be perfect. I have seen that authenticity often performs better than perfection there . It's about more being relatable ,hopping on a sound early , and adding my own twist before the trend fades out.
What really stood out to me is how the same trend can exist on both platforms—but feel completely different. On TikTok, it might be spontaneous and a little chaotic, while on Instagram, it becomes more refined and intentional.
Understanding these differences has changed the way I create content. Instead of reposting the exact same thing everywhere, I now adapt my approach depending on the platform. That shift alone has helped me connect better with my audience and get more out of each piece of content I share.
At the end of the day, it’s not just about following trends—it’s about understanding where you are, how people behave there, and showing up in a way that fits naturally.
