Facebook and Gen Z: Why We're Ghosting it (Mostly)

Honestly, Facebook feels weird now. Like walking into a party where everyone knows everyone, but nobody talks the way you do. For Gen Z, it's not even dead - it's just lost its vibe. When I scroll through my feed, it's mostly ads, my relative's political rants and people posting life updates I don't really care about. Meanwhile, the stories, reels and TikTok-style short stuff that we actually vibe with? That's nowhere to be found.

For us, it's not about being "anti-Facebook". It's about efficiency and energy. Why spend time on a platform that feels like homework when we've TikTok, Instagram and Youtube feeding us memes, trends and everything in 15 seconds flat? Plus, Gen Z is all about connection that feels REAL, or at least fast and interactive - reacting with a heart emoji on your cousin's vacation photo doesn't cut it.

That said, Facebook isn't irrelevant. It's where the older crowd is, the news articles live, and where groups still have their power. For me, I dip in occassionally- mostly to check events near me, pages I actually care about, or memes that somehow made it past the algorithm. But it's no longer the "center of social life". Honestly, it's like wearing a jacket that is warm, familiar, but not exactly your style.

Gen Z is redefining social platforms. We care about speed, visuals, and stories that feel alive, not a never-ending scroll of status updates. And unless Facebook adapts? We'll keep ghosting it - politely of course

I sorry it feels that way to you, Anisha.

But I can't help with any advice because I don't do Facebook. That will have to change If I end up doing Facebook ads as suggested in the Bootcamp.
