Do not try to get too far ahead of yourself follow the training and it will get to that in the right time for your site. Just a suggestion
The thing is...I keep going over my website and it has that "unattached" feel....I need a little 'oomph' to it. It's as though, I could put pictures all over it if I wanted....but I need something else. It's hard for me to explain. I love my content, but I feel as if it's a little off, but it's getting there.

Your site kind of lends well to a cartoon. More specifically, if you ever saw the show The Nanny, I was thinking something along the lines of a cartoon like the introduction to that show. Search on YouTube for "The Nanny Intro" if you haven't seen the actual show.
I am not suggesting copying that. But it could have that kind of feel for your website.
