My First Dilemma

ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH... I'm going to drive myself nuts!! I've been procrastinating my dilemma for over a week now - going round and round in circles. I need advice...

Is it possible - or should I - have the one domain name www.sibsworld.com where I might possibly have all of my niche blogs on separate pages. This way they would all pertain to me and sort of be my "living" book. So I might have Sib's Sentiments as one page/blog and Sib's Cash Cow as another and Seeking Slim Sib as another and My Passion for Perfume as another... see what I mean??

If this is possible, the up-side is that it is all together as my living book. The down-side is that some people i know might get offended and/or judgmental at some of my content.

That then brings me to my next question: Do I use my name at all or do I remain anonymous? My past blogs have been anonymous because I've found that to be easier when I write about my personal weightloss-gain-loss-gain-loss-gain (you get the picture) journey. Yet, part of me also wants to find the courage to "come out" so to speak; to not be afraid of my own thoughts and writings, let alone be afraid of people's judgements.

All comments and thoughts welcome :)

As the comments mentioned below, do what you feel is right. It's your blog, and your business. If you have a wide range of interests and topics you can write about, a blog about yourself could be a good way to 'brand' yourself and make a name for yourself in the online world.

That being said, you might want to think about being a bit more "nichey", as in choosing one single niche rather than a bunch of them. Starting this way can allow you to focus, and it can also make sure that someone who lands on your site KNOWS what the site is about.

If you have experience with weight loss and gain, this could be a great niche to go into. Think of what kind of people could benefit from your personal experiences, and turn that into a niche blog. There are probably thousands of people that struggled/succeeded with the same things you did, and this connection can be a powerful way to 'speak' to your audience.

I don't know if having a health/diet/weightloss site interests you though! If you aren't passionate about this topic, then it's best to not go down that route. Have you seen the videos on choosing a niche yet?

Hi Sibylle

In answer to your questions
1. Build one website - It's easier to control when you're starting out than it is to create multiple ones.
2. Multiple topics - Yes it may be some people don't like some of your content - but that's just a risk you have to take.
3. Use your own name - This is entirely a matter of choice. I use my own name for my coaching site - because someone could meet me - so having a different name wouldn't be authentic - but I run another site which is anonymous because I wouldn't want it to be connected to me (but not because I am ashamed of it) This just has to be a judgement call and what you feel comfortable with.

The most important thing in making your choice is that you create a site that is of value to the readers.

Good luck

Beverley

Thanks Beverley. So you think having multiple topics is OK? Each topic will have it's own page, And assuming each page is its own blog, that should be cool, right?

I think as Rick has said - it's a lot to take on and people may not want to visit such a generalised site. Each page isn't it's own blog - it will be a single blog post? Is this for your benefit and joy of writing or is it for the readers?

Hi. Is this your first website? If so, you may be taking on a lot as it sounds like you're trying to include many niches under one site. If I'm searching for seeking slim and see perfume or cash cow I'm likely to click away. I see what you're trying to do with your living book but you may want to narrow your niche to a target audience.

Don't spend too much time on selecting a website name, find one that you like and is easy to remember . It is your content that will bring traffic. Does this make sense?

Hi Rick,

No it's not my first website - more like my 4th, as my coaching business has evolved over the past 12 years. Currently, I also have www.SibylleAustin.com which I'm going to leave as is. It's not where I want to blog/write. My greater purpose for joining WA is to be paid for some of my writing, yet I am fully aware that not all of it will fit into the affiliate world.

So if traffic pops into my perfume blog, don't you think they'll just read all the perfume entries? They don't have to pop over to my other blogs, even though they're all under the one big umbrella??

Did what is in your heart. DOn't be afraid of offending people that know you. They aren't the ones that are doing to buy from you are they? Personal I like seeing pages that are sorta personal. It lets my know that the page was wrote by a REAL person and not just a computer bot.

Thanks Darlene. Yes, at the ripe old age of 51, I do believe it's time for me to have the courage to REALLY be me.

No matter what you do it will not please everyone so try to please the majority of your target audience as well as yourself.

Who cares what other people think. It is what you think that is important. Just be true & honest. We can all relate to what you are going through. Personally I think you should use your own name
