The Thief of Distraction and Procrastination with Tips to Help Overcome

Hi Everyone here at WA, This is my first ever blog post. I signed up here back in September 2018. I felt like this would be the way to go, in learning this new skill of online marketing. I also signed up for another service in the same skill area hoping that would get me along faster.

What I have found is that I have shiny object syndrome. Yeah, you heard that right, shiny object syndrome. You see, I love the ads people place and I buy lots of goods and services on line, so I know what draws people in, at least 'this person'. It's how I found all of you! The problem is, it gets me no where here; working on what can liberate me from the work I do today. Where I can travel at the drop of a hat, volunteer more, hike more, work from home all the time, be with my dogs and kitty kids whenever I want (which is all the time: ). Don't get me wrong, I love the little bit of work I do now, caring for special needs kids, designer dogs and elders and let's not forget being a super host on Airbnb, being a small time farmer, being a mentor, I love all that stuff; I love people. The only problem is the numbers are not where I'd like them to be, a 100 here, a hundred there just isn't enough for the big stuff I need to be doing to make a ripple in the world.

As luck would have it, as a child I was born with a high IQ, I am told I was extemely gifted in writing, acting, giving speeches and art. In fact so much so, teachers would keep my works as examples for others to follow. Sadly, my parents were not able to take me back at the end of the year to collect them, so they were lost. Soon, I just put all the gifts I had on a shelf never really returning to take them down; There is a story there too. Now I find it difficult to write at all, reading too!

I am not disciplined and that is one big issue! In writing this post I am hopeful that it will shake something loose. At least my little secret will be out. To my credit, I have looked at a few things here and on the other site and even managed to sit through a few hours of training.

Do you ever find anything else to do, but what is in front of you? I mean I'd rather mop a floor than sit and concentrate on learning something that can change my life - for the better!

I want to forge ahead and find out what this skill set can really do.

Here are some ideas that I found that have helped others and I am hoping it will help you and I too, for those that have this affliction.

1. Having clear goals, dreams and desires set before us somewhere, where we can see them everyday!

2. Set aside time everyday to do 2-3 tasks, that's not so bad right?

3. Do them, right after breakfast!! Now, not later in the day, when distractions are at their peak!

4. Focus on the smallest parts of our work first. If needed, break them into smaller pieces so they don't seem so daunting.

5. Imagine yourself working! Not just what it is like at the end (when the money flows in like no tomorrow) but right now, what does it look like for us to be on the computer and create! To learn, look up stuff, design and place ads, etc.

6. Control Our inner distractions. Focus on getting something done rather than entertaining all those other thoughts that will take you away from achieving what we really want, freedom!! Another way we can do this, is by practicing The Pomodoro Technique. I'll let you look that up : )

7. Remove external distractions. This one is difficult because well, I am on the computer all the time and that is where some of my distractions are! I think minimizing the clutter around the desk could help, right?

8. Skip what we don't know. That way the momentum will continue and by the time we come back perhaps we may have learned enough to get though it or at least not break the momentum and find other ways to achieve the task.

9. Improve our discipline with focus practice, such as meditating (another one of my favorite things to do, not!) The Pomodoro technique mentioned earlier which includes focus sprints, followed by a solid break.

10. Manage our momentum. It is easier to keep the pace of what we have going on by doing a task or more each day that contributes to your success. It is easier than having to start over again and again and muster up the discipline it takes each time.

Writing this has been only a little challenging. As I was writing, I thought of only a couple other things I'd like to be doing, like cleaning the litter pan (I'll leave that to sonmeone else) Because I have other things to tend to - like staying focused; right here, right now.

Great blog, I fully relate in a number of aspects - like my soul is telling me I should be doing what you are. Am single parent to a special need child, recently retrenched so exploring new avenues I never could before hence being here. Not yet sold on being an Affiliate, exploring still! Would love to sign up with them but must first explore before I commit limited funds.

This is going to be the first of many blogs for you! Keep on, it's made a difference to a few of us so thanks.
