One Year, Four Brands, and the Strategy That Changed Everything: My Journey from Beginner to Busines
Twelve months ago, I was sitting at my desk wondering the same thing a lot of people do when they first start an online business:
Is this actually going to work?
I didn’t have all the answers. What I had was an idea — and the determination to figure it out.
Today, I’m managing four live websites, each with their own social media pages, growing audiences, affiliate income, product lines, and real engagement across multiple platforms.
But this isn’t just a success story.
This is the real story of what it took.
The Starting Line: A Single Idea and Zero Traffic
I didn’t come into this with a team or investors.
I had:
- One passion: cryptids, Bigfoot, and the unexplained
- A growing interest in affiliate marketing
- A goal to eventually blend the two into something powerful
My first site was a passion project. I wanted to document real Bigfoot reports, theories, and personal reflections. That was it.
The idea wasn’t polished.
I didn’t have social media figured out.
I didn’t even have consistent blog traffic.
But what I had was the mindset to learn.
And I did.
Building the Foundation: Content, Community, and Consistency
The first three months were the hardest.
- Learning how to rank blog posts on search engines
- Figuring out Pinterest algorithms and why some pins got traction while others flopped
- Creating Facebook posts that didn’t just get likes but actually sparked conversation
- Balancing long hours between writing, designing, and audience engagement
I spent every spare moment building pillar blogs (deep, evergreen content).
I mapped out content calendars.
I listened to my audience, adjusted, and kept going.
That’s when the first wins started showing up.
A trickle of organic traffic turned into hundreds of visitors.
A few Facebook followers turned into thousands of impressions.
Pins started getting saved and shared.
And slowly, the numbers started to rise.
Scaling Up: From One Site to Four
By month four, something clicked.
I realized that what I was building wasn’t just a hobby — it was a system.
I replicated the process:
- Launched a second site focused on business and affiliate education.
- Created a third site geared toward outdoor gear and survival content.
- Started a fourth project, preparing for a future venture tied to all my growth strategies.
Each brand got its own social media presence.
Each developed a unique voice, strategy, and content plan.
Yes, it was overwhelming at times.
But this is where the real growth began.
The Numbers That Tell the Story
Here’s what that year of steady, focused effort has turned into:
- More than 258,000 Pinterest impressions in just the last two months
- 3,200+ affiliate link clicks tracked across my content
- 16 affiliate sign-ups, So Far and rising
- Over 244,000 Facebook views with thousands of interactions
- Four websites with real, growing audiences
- Email lists beginning to grow in multiple niches
It’s not flashy "overnight success."
It’s real.
It’s repeatable.
And most importantly, it’s scalable.
The Turning Point: When Learning Became Strategy
In the beginning, I was just absorbing knowledge — learning how things worked, applying what I could, and hoping for the best.
But around month six, something shifted.
I wasn’t just learning anymore.
I was thinking like a strategist.
I started building funnels instead of random posts.
I tracked click-through rates and adjusted designs.
I tested content styles on different platforms to maximize engagement.
That’s when things accelerated.
My sites stopped feeling like small side projects and started operating like real businesses.
The Calm Before the Storm
Right now, all my metrics are pointing in one direction: up.
Traffic is climbing.
Engagement is increasing.
Affiliate referrals are becoming consistent.
My content is being discovered by new audiences daily.
But to me, this doesn’t feel like the “arrival.”
It feels like the calm before the storm.
The quiet before the next big leap.
Because now that the systems are in place — and I’ve learned how to scale — the next phase is clear:
Growth. Revenue. Freedom.
Final Thoughts: What This Journey Has Really Taught Me
Here’s what I know now that I didn’t know a year ago:
- Slow growth is still growth. Every small win adds up.
- Consistency beats hype. Trends fade. Systems last.
- You have to evolve. Learning is great, but strategy is what takes you to the next level.
And most importantly:
If you treat this like a business from day one, eventually, it becomes one.
So if you’re in month one (or month six) and wondering if it’s worth it?
It is.
Your future self will thank you.
I'll leave you with this
"The seeds you plant in silence today will become the forest everyone sees tomorrow."

The time old saying " Patience is a virtue" Certainly holds truth to your testimony above.
Along with having that positive mindset and the willingness to push through any barriers before you, shows that it can and will be achievable if you continue to believe in yourself and in all you do.
Well done Shawn, and hopefully many will read this, especially newbies and not-so-newbies that it can and will be achievable when you make the effort.

Thank you, Andre. That means a lot coming from you. You're absolutely right, patience, mindset, and persistence really are everything. The journey has its ups and downs, but if we stay focused and keep showing up, progress is always possible. I hope others see that too and realize it's all within reach if they just keep going. Appreciate your encouragement and support.

You are welcome that is also a reason why I am doing the growth mindset series so people who do read can either be. Reminded

Congratulations, Shawn. This is great progress, and it's very encouraging to hear your story. I'm just in the waiting phase at the moment but I'm continuing to write, engage and work consistently, in the hope and belief that it will all pay off soon. It's so nice to hear other people's experiences like this.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Thank you so much, Gail. I really appreciate your words. I remember being in that waiting phase too, and honestly, there are still moments when I feel that way. It can seem like everything is moving in slow motion, but looking back, that phase is where the real foundation was built. Your consistency and belief will absolutely pay off, probably sooner than you think. Keep showing up, keep creating, and trust that all the effort is building something powerful behind the scenes. You’ve got this.

This is Great Shawn, The numbers are amazing, 258,000 Pinterest impressions, Thats a lot of traffic, So Shawn how long did it take you to reach this success, and did u do it with FUNNALs
Thanks so much, MrWillan! The Pinterest account has only been open for about 2 months and the Facebook page I’ve been building since January 2025. The middle numbers you’re seeing actually cover the full year from May to May (on Wealthy Affiliate) that’s where a lot of the overall growth came in.
I did try running one funnel early on but realized I still need to learn a bit more on that side. Most of these numbers came from consistent organic posting, testing different content styles, and just staying really active in my niche.
Now, I also have my Instagram account hooked to both Facebook and Pinterest as one unit. I post on Facebook, it auto-uploads to Instagram, and then from Instagram it uploads to Pinterest. I’m trying to use it as a bridge between the platforms. Not sure if it’s gaining me anything extra yet, but I’m watching to see where it goes.
And I also post directly on Pinterest itself too, especially content that’s more visual or doesn’t quite fit the auto-sharing flow.
It’s been a lot of trial and error, but that’s how I hit these numbers so quickly!

Wow Shawn—this post hit like a freight train on a dirt road.
You basically just told a version of my own story... only swap out cryptids and Bigfoot for RVs, campground ops, and digital nomad life, and you’ve got me to a tee.
I started about three years ago with a blog idea based on my full-time RV life across BC and Saskatchewan. Fast forward to now—I’m managing four websites across different niches (RV/off-grid, nature travel, nomad income, and VR fitness), each with their own affiliate strategies, YouTube channels, and growing audiences.
I remember those early days—zero traffic, no social media strategy, barely knowing how SEO worked. Just like you, I leaned into learning, building pillar content, and adapting based on real-world results. My first few “wins” felt like magic... and then I realized they weren’t magic at all. They were the result of systems, consistency, and staying damn curious.
And just like you said:
“If you treat this like a business from day one, eventually, it becomes one.”
That line nailed it.
This wasn’t just motivational—it was confirmation that those of us building real foundations (not chasing flash) are on the right track. Appreciate your transparency and the tactical breakdown of your growth.
Looking forward to seeing how you scale this even further, brother. If you're ever down to chat cryptids vs. campgrounds or growth tactics across niches, give me a shout!
Jeremy,
Bro, your comment lit me up.
You just nailed exactly why this journey means something. Different paths, same mindset. Whether it’s Bigfoot in the backwoods or RVs off the grid, we’re both chasing something real—brick by brick, with curiosity as the fuel and strategy as the frame.
Your story proves something I believe deep down, this isn’t about luck. It’s about intention. Systems, service, and sticking with it even when the trail looks empty.
I’d be down to chat cryptids vs. campgrounds or niche growth anytime. Feels like there’s a crossover blog or two just waiting to happen.
Respect, brother.
Oh—and just for fun, I made you two different Pinterest-style pins. Totally free to use if you want. Both were designed to drive clicks and boost engagement, and who knows—maybe even snag a sale or two.
Bigfoot’s Not Hiding, He’s RVing.
What if the real secret behind Bigfoot’s legendary vanishing act…
is that he’s been living the ultimate off-grid RV life?
No schedule. No traffic. Just freedom, fresh air, and forest trails for miles.
Whether you believe in Sasquatch or not, one thing’s real—the great outdoors won’t wait.
So why should you?
🌲 Grab your gear
🚐 Fire up the RV
👣 Make tracks like a legend
Explore more. Wander wild. Live like Bigfoot.
Here’s to your journey, man. I hope these bring you great success—and maybe one day we’ll build a killer blog together.
You bring the RV.
I’ll get Bigfoot.
Stay wild, brother.
Your success is just off the trail line.
