Have YOU Been to the Crossroads? My 90th Post on the Digital Unknown

I’ve been thinking a lot about crossroads lately.
Maybe it’s the October air that strange mix of change and chill that always feels like something old is waking up.
Maybe it’s because this marks my 90th blog here on Wealthy Affiliate, and I’ve been asking myself what to say that really matters.

This post isn't just about my 90th blog; it's about the moment you realize the digital road you're on is the most important crossroad of your life.

October has always felt like a month of thin veils.
The ancients used to say this is when the spirits come closest when the world of the living and the unseen overlap.
They believed the crossroads were the meeting points between those worlds.
A place where souls pause before choosing their next path.
Where travelers left offerings for guidance and sometimes, made deals that changed everything.

I’ve walked my fair share of crossroads too not just out there on the highways, but in the online world.
Every time I hit publish, every time I built a brand or took a risk on something new, I was standing there again…
in that quiet moment between what was and what could be.

See, the crossroads aren’t just old folklore.
They’re real.
They exist every time you choose to follow a dream instead of fear.
They exist every time you shut out the noise and listen to that whisper that says, keep going.

The Ancient Crossroads Where Worlds Met

In ancient times, people believed the crossroads were more than intersections of dirt and road they were spiritual gateways.

Hecate guarded them in Greece, holding her torches high for those who wandered between realms.
In Celtic lore, the crossroads were where spirits could travel freely, where you might meet an ancestor or a messenger in disguise.
And in old Hoodoo and folk magic, it’s said that if you stood at the crossroads at midnight long enough, the spirits would listen some even claimed you could make a pact for skill, art, or destiny.

To stand at the crossroads was to face the unknown but also to invite transformation.
It wasn’t just about summoning spirits.
It was about summoning courage.

I’ve been there before.
Not under a moonlit sky with candles in hand but on a digital screen at two in the morning, staring at a blank post, wondering if any of this was worth it.
And yet, that same spirit that ancient energy was there.
The energy of choice.
The same pull that asks, “Will you take the safer road, or the one that could change everything?”

The Modern Crossroads The Digital Unknown

The online world is its own version of the crossroads.
You arrive with uncertainty.
You don’t know where the road will lead, who you’ll meet, or what you’ll build.
But somewhere along the way, if you stick with it long enough, you realize the internet isn’t just a machine it’s a living realm of energy, connection, and intent.

Affiliate marketing, content creation, brand building they’re not cold systems.
They’re living crossroads where human creativity meets digital opportunity.
Every story, every blog, every video, every click it’s a ripple through that web.
You might not see who you inspire. You might not even realize whose life changes because of something you wrote.

That’s the beauty of it.
That’s the mystery of this new kind of crossroads.

Standing at the Unknown Crossroad

I’ve worked 62.5 hours in the last four days, bouncing from one oilfield run to the next. The road hums, the radio fades, and the world starts to quiet down enough for me to think.

And maybe that’s why this month feels different.
October has always carried a certain weight for me a deeper meaning I can’t quite shake.
For years, I sat at that unknown crossroad, not sure which way to go.
Part of me wanted to keep driving down the same road I always had.
The other part… kept whispering that there was more.

This year, I finally stepped up to my own crossroad and I chose.
No fear. No second-guessing.

I looked around at everything I’ve overcome every blog, every book, every long night building something I couldn’t even see yet and I realized how far this journey has really gone.

Wealthy Affiliate helped me find that voice.
They gave me the tools, but more than that they gave me the courage to speak.
Through this community, I learned that storytelling isn’t just something you do…
it’s something you live.

And even though I’ve been running hard this year hauling, writing, building when I finally look up from it all…
I see my certainty.
I see the road ahead.
It’s no longer dark. It’s lit by every post, every word, and every connection I’ve made here.

The Month of Motion

This month alone, I’ve written 22 blogs across my websites, 10 right here on WA.
I’ve published my newest book and I’m already pushing hard to get the next one out.
That makes Book #13 heading into Halloween, and that number carries weight for me.

But October hasn’t just been about the work.
It’s been about the pivot.
I’ve been testing new ad sets, studying insights, running experiments and I’ve learned a lot that I’ll be sharing with you all in the coming weeks.

Because this blog, number 90… this is the milestone that reminds me I’ve already climbed one mountain and started the next.
They say here at WA we’re all working toward 100 blogs but I’ve already hit that twice over on my own websites, with 215 pieces published and some are ranking.

And this year… well, it’s been a story of contrasts.
One of my brands crossed 1 million views the kind of milestone that makes you stop and breathe it in.
But at the same time, my book traffic dropped by half a million views.
That’s the crossroad no one talks about when success and setback show up on the same screen, and you have to decide which one defines you.

Me? I chose to see it as proof that I’m still growing.
Because numbers rise and fall but direction, purpose, and story keep moving forward.

The Road Beyond the Veil

These next ten blogs will carry a different weight.
They’ll be the kind that make you stop, think, and maybe even see your own reflection in the glow of the screen.
Because this next stretch of road for me isn’t just about stats or sales.
It’s about showing what happens when you take one leap at the right moment when you trust your calling instead of your comfort.

The crossroads taught me that transformation doesn’t happen when you play it safe.
It happens when you walk straight into the unknown and build something real with what you find there.

So as Halloween nears and the veil grows thin, I’ll be sharing everything
the pivot, the ads, the new book, the lessons from the million-view highs and the half-million-view lows.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re standing at your own crossroad, wondering if you should take that next step…
then stay close.

Because these next ten blogs?
They’ll show exactly what happens when you do.

And before I close this one I want to say something from the heart.
This milestone blog is dedicated to all of you here at Wealthy Affiliate
for being that light when the road got dark,
for proving that this journey is never walked alone.
So thank you truly for being part of this road,
and for reminding me that even in the fog, there’s always someone holding the lantern.

I like your articles because I know it is all you and not AI. Although I can never enter an intersection in the same way again. 😀 MAC.

Hey Mac,
That compliment means a lot, my friend. I really appreciate you seeing the real me in that blog that’s exactly why I write. Funny thing is, that post took me around four hours to put together, even with the AI help, from writing it to creating the image.

And I’ll be 100% honest with you, Mac I talk with my custom ChatGPT (my man Chad!) all the time so it knows my voice and how I think, but every single thought, idea, and post you see is all me. I just use AI to help me sharpen my words and speak clearly to yous.

Thanks again, brother really appreciate the kind words

Hey, Shawn.

You have blown me away with this post.

You wove this as a true storyteller. In fact, I took it to Chatty to get her read on it and add it to my strategy log. But here is what she says about your 90th blog.

"This is prime Authentic Voice Canon material — a lived parable about persistence, creativity, and the soul of storytelling. It mirrors your own narrative aesthetic (the spiritual-mechanical intersection of old myth and digital craft)."

I think I am going to have to look into your books, and give your sites more than a once over.

WOW!

That’s awesome, bro
Yeah, I had to put a lot of heart into that one for sure. But honestly, it’s great people like you, JD, that bring that storytelling side out of me. Without all your honesty and support, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Knowing this one hit home for you truly warms my heart. My book will take you so far down a folklore trail you’ll feel it in your bones I can guarantee that. I love writing, and with a bit of help I’m learning how to shape it into what I really want it to be.

At the end of the day though, if no one reads it, the words can’t come alive, they just stay a legend. It’s the people who read it, like you, that breathe life into the stories through your own imagination.

I’m truly honored to be writing beside you, brother. I did see your post just working my way through things today while I wait on a call. But if you liked this one, the next tale’s gonna have you on the edge of your seat.

Thanks again, bro. I really appreciate you.

You are most welcome, Shawn.

Are your books, a series? Or are they a series of stand-alone stories?

JD

Amazing work Shawn. You are a powerhouse! Congratulations on your 90th blog too - you are really shaking it up in all things and this will lead to some great rewards for you, I'm sure.

I love all the links to things a little supernatural as you know so I love the idea that crossroads can lead us to other realms.

Recently, I've been reminded of a song called "Crossroads" by Don Maclean that I used to play on the piano and sing when I was younger, and I couldn't get the words out of my head. I've always found them strangely reassuring in a bitter sweet kind of way, but make of them what you will.
All the best, my friend. Gail

Here's the first 2 verses:

I've got nothing on my mind,
Nothing to remember,
Nothing to forget.
And I've got nothing to regret.
But I'm all tied up on the inside,
No one knows quite what I've got,
And I know that on the outside
What I used to be
I'm not
anymore.

You know I've heard about people like me
But I never made the connection.
They walk one road to set them free
And find they've gone the wrong direction.
But there's no need for turning back
Cause all roads lead to where I stand;
And I believe I'll walk them all
No matter what I may have planned.

Hey Gail, thank you so much my friend that really means a lot coming from you. You’ve always brought such a grounded yet mystical energy to this place, and I love that connection you made to “Crossroads.” Those lyrics are incredible… haunting in the best kind of way, like they carry a quiet truth most people overlook.

I can almost picture you at the piano, singing those words that soul-stirring tone fits the whole idea of crossroads perfectly. Sometimes the wrong turn is the one that ends up setting us free, right?

And thank you again for the kind words about the blogs it’s been a wild ride getting to ninety, but the journey’s been worth every mile. I’m really grateful for the support and for friends like you who make it feel less like a grind and more like a shared adventure.

Thanks, Shawn. I really appreciate your support too. It's great to have friends here who you know are rooting for your success.
One thought - you may be able to picture me at the piano, but it's probably a good job your can't hear me!! LOL

Have a great weekend - I'm off to the seaside with my girls for a couple of days - it's been a stressful and busy week and both of them have been in A&E independently in the last week. I've also had a nasty cold so I'm looking forward to a bit of much needed R&R.
Gail

I’ll always be here rooting for you, Gail. Sorry, I’m in the middle of writing a book and just looked up like wow, where did the day go? Sounds like you really deserve that family time away. That right there is the whole meaning of life. Enjoy your time, rest up, and we’ll all be here waiting to hear how it went. Have a great weekend, my friend.
Shawn

Wow, book #13 and all this work on WA—good for you Shawn!

Must feel nice. It’s quite an accomplishment! 🎉

Crossroads are lines of greater energy and where change happens. Surely there is more to come…

Have a Happy Halloween/Blessed Samhain! 😊

Thanks so much, Meadow!
