I am finding that I am spending a lot of time on some tasks that I simply don't think are dollar productive and I'm wondering about the possibility of outsourcing some tasks to let

Hi Shaun,
So long as your site is viewable via a mobile and looks reasonable nobody is going to worry about how your site looks.
I like the simple look rather than whistles and bangs everywhere.
If you wanted to outsource anything then you could outsourse the article writing side of things.
You write the main content for your site, but articles say used on Article Directories you can outsource.

Hey Shaun...When you are going to outsource a task or tasks if is crucial that you fully understand how to do the task you are outsourcing.

"so I'm partly to blame - well, wholly, I guess." yep you are correct...I spend very little time tweaking the look of my site...Plane and simple is what works...Also once you are getting traffic to the site...then that is the time to go back and do some Tweaks...

As for starting from scratch....We all started from scratch...really!

Something that will make your job much faster and less frustrating is...

Using your example of Adsense blocks. When you are doing any task like this...Take the time to make a cheat sheet as you are doing any task...Yes it will take you longer to do this but the next time you are doing this task you can refer to your cheat sheet...You will refine your cheat sheet as you use it...it will get better as you progress..

I keep these cheat sheets in a three ring binder and it saves me a tun of time and frustration. That would be my #1 tip to some one new to this business.

So become good at all the tasks before you outsource them...

Hi RonnyG, thanks for your comments. I have started creating cheat sheets like you propose - yes, it does take longer, but I also agree that it is great when you do something again. I also tend to think like you re the knowing how to do something before you outsource it - in the past I have found that you need to understand anything that you give to others to do to be able to make sure that you can tell them clearly what you want to have done. I appreciate your comments and taking the time to comment - thanks - I think I need to get over myself a bit and just go for plain and simple and worry about the fancy stuff later. Thanks again!

Hi Shaun
You can of course pay for someone to play around with your site - but you will probably pay more than you want and you won't necessarily understand what's been done.

This for me is about choices. Lots of people waste time - trying to get the 'perfect site' visually. I'm not saying it doesn't matter - it does - but actually sometimes you have to go for good enough and as you say concentrate on the content. It's the content which will bring you visitors.

Probably not very helpful - but we all started from a zero base

Beverley

Hi Beverley, your comments are definitely helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to share them. I think I need to just go for plain and simple now - focus on functionality and content and worry about the pretty stuff later. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. Shaun
