Change Your Habits Change Your Life
Did you know that almost every thing we do in our life is a habit, that we are habitually carrying out the same things day in day out. We get out of bed the same side, we put our shoes on the same foot first each time, we do so much out of habit that most people don't even think that what they are doing can be changed, they think that is what I've always done and that is what i will always do.
That is of course down largely to the programming we had as children and as we go through life, but the sad fact is that the majority of people will go to their grave with that same programming, never realising they can change and live their life to it's truly amazing potential.
Using this in the context of what we do here.
What if you were in the bad habit of logging on to your computer and wasting hours on different social media platform or even the live chat here at WA instead of working straight away? What you're doing there isn't a concious decision anymore, it's a habit that doesn't serve you and one that you wouldn't even be aware you were doing.
I read a great book recently called Psycho Cybernetics by Professor Maxwell Maltz and in it he outlined that in order to change you need to carry out the new process for only a relatively small amount of time namely around 21 days after which time it is known as a "habit" and as we all know habits are hard to break. But not impossible.
I'm not about to tell you here how to go about changing your habits, that's for you to decide and carry out, but hopefully it's given you some food for thought.
I'm going to leave you with this.
There is such a small difference that seperates the winners and the losers, some people call it the razors edge.
Quick example:
My son was a footballer, not because he was that much better than anybody else that wanted to be one, but because he would train either on his own or with his Dad when all his friends were out playing.
Don't you think he wanted to be out playing instead of training? Of course he did, but that desire to become a footballer was with him from a young age and that desire had an overriding effect on him. It was a habit.
If you were to spend just one extra hour a day more than what you normally do then that would add up to an incredible 9 additional 40 hour weeks of produtivity per year!
Think how much you could get done in that time.

A thought provoking piece. And you are absolutely right we all have habits, some are fine the way they are but it is important to recognise those habits that don’t serve us very well.

That's the trick isn't it, to be able to know which habits are good and which ones are actually holding you back.
Beautiful blog post and so true. Everything is a habit, and the things we are not used to if we insist on it for a while it quickly will become a new habit.
Thank you, I have surprised myself how many habits I have that are not really any good for me.
