I got a call from my brother a few days ago and he asked me a question. He says “hey how do you catch those big fish?”

I sent him to one of my honey holes for a night of leisure for him and his wife to enjoy as she had been begging him to go fishing.

I chuckled and thought to myself wow I’m known as the guy catching the big fish. There’s a family feud in the family about who has caught the biggest lake monster. Well it’s mainly my cousin who claims this award, and I more than happy to contest that sentiment.

In my reply I simply explained to him that catching the big fish requires patience, strategy, and execution. He then says “explain more” so I happily said.

It's going to take time

I don’t just start casting my line as far as I can in hopes to reach deeper waters where the fish may be.

fish are habitual creatures that move a certain way depending on the atmosphere. Using a 15 degree interval method I scan the waters.

Starting right in front of me i troll the waters and start in the areas that have tree limbs, rocks, any type of cover. Bass love COVER they will find the nearest source of cover to hang out and chill for the day.

Some say in the hotter weathers they run deep. Which may be true. However, I’ve caught my biggest not even 5 ft right in front of me on the hottest of days. You can easily startle the fish on the way back in and ruin the whole day.

Starting closer to me I work my way out to the action not past it. Leaving the possibility of a strike much higher.

Now I just have to find out what it is they are going to strike. Is it a feeding frenzy and they are ready to bite whatever? or do I have to entice them with a little dance to annoy them. Well!

How do you find that out?

This is the time to Become strategic in your retrieval. On the hotter days I like to annoy the waters by using a swim bait with a square bill where it’ll swim the bottom of a lake/pond figuring out the terrain.

If the bottom is dragging with a lot of vegetation I’m going with a wacky rig presentation or maybe even a Carolina rig. Using worms or crawfish soft plastic baits these creatures I just jump the bottom by jerking the tip of my rod up n down.

On the cooler days I like to use noisy crank baits. Become irritable as the fish become more lethargic in cooler temperatures.

My very last resort is my top water baits Frogs, and ploppers. I cast these out and just reels them in fast as if they were running across the top of the water. The way bass jump and strike these baits are nothing less then amazing. KEEP IN MIND THAT THE BIGGER THE BAIT THE BIGGER THE FISH.

So you'll have to experiment with big baits to attract a monster size fish & Finally.

Hey get your lines out there!

it doesn’t matter what method you learn or hear about you can’t catch fish if you don’t get your line out there! Grab some bait find a lake and keep those lines tight. Some days I go fishing for hours and will catch absolutely nothing.

for me the thrill of the hunt is good enough. Approaching still waters as it appears like a sheet of glass. The tree line along the horizon mirror the surface of the water in a calming effect. The wind, water, and sounds of nature sends your mind into a state of relaxation that my body craves after a busy work week or a tough patch I’m having at home .

That’s the best way to market my website as well! I’ve gotta be patient, create a strategy, and execute the game plan!
