Disappointed
In South Africa, $49 equals to 588 South African Rands, which is what some people here make in a 2 week working week, It's half of a month's salary for some people in SA.
This is also a lot for me to spend to upgrade to PREMIUM and not knowing if I will make any money or not.
Another thing is, If you are a STARTER member then you are unable to add affiliate programs to your WordPress website, which I think is a little unfair, especially for people like me who earn very little working full time, as it it would make sense to be able to add affiliate programs to your website so that you can make a little bit of money in order to at least pay to be a premium member.
I am a bit disappointed and I really don't think WA is for me.

You can definitely add affiliate links to your website as a starter member - You can even participate in WA´s own affiliate program and get paid to refer members as a starter.
As Sanders suggest you can always stay a free member and keep learning even though you of course will not have access to the same resources, but that does not mean you cannot learn because you definitely can.
And if you at some point then see the benefit of upgrading then remember that there also is a yearly membership. Know it is a lot of money to come up with in one go - but by paying for a yearly membership, you will pay less than $1 a day and you can easily make that back (and much more).
Hope you will keep building your site and see the opportunities also with the free membership. If you want to learn about building your own online income, WA is probably the best place to be.

you need to join the affiliate programs for the products/services you want to promote.
Once you join affiliate programs, you will get a link, and you insert this into your website like any other link.
In the case of WA you are already a member of the affiliate program just by being a member here.
If you click the small $ at the top of the screen, you will see an option called links & tracking. Here you will find you affiliate link to promote Wealthy Affiliate.
I was in a similar situation, I couldn't afford premium either and was a starter member for ages. You could promote WA on social media using your affiliate link. You only need three referrals to go premium and that pays for the monthly membership. That method can be done without a website, join loads of make money online Facebook groups and promote WA in there. Once you have your membership sorted you can create a website in your own niche.

How many referrals did you get when you just started out?
I got 5 - 6 referrals when I was promoting every day on the different FB groups but unfortunately none have gone premium yet. However because of the lifetime cookie, if they do go premium I will get the commission. It is a patience and numbers game. It is worth a try. If you need any further help don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Sejal. I appreciate your situation and I'm sure there are many people around the world who are in a similar boat. I can see you have got some great advice from some other members here too. I'll just add that there are a few members here from South Africa who were once in your shoes, and other people who are students and part-time workers, or single mums from all over the world. What's important is that you focus on what you want to achieve. Don't worry too much about how. Going premium is a good thing if you can, but there are other options if not. Think of this as a long-term investment rather than a quick way to earn money, and you will find the motivation to succeed. You can still promote WA on your site, social media and other ways in the meantime. And then when you can go premium (or better, pay yearly), it will help you to see this as a business.
