AI Image Prompting - Using Atmosphere and Weather and Kre8or

A sunny lake, a few kayakers, and a peaceful day outdoors. That’s where this experiment started. Then I asked Kre8or to change the weather.

The lake became misty. Storm clouds rolled in. Rain fell, waves appeared, and eventually sunlight broke through. Each change gave the scene a different feeling—and sometimes Kre8or changed more than I intended!

That’s what we’re exploring in this next part of my AI Prompting series: how atmosphere and weather help tell a story.

Weather isn’t just something happening in an image. Weather has a job.

Morning mist can suggest tranquility or mystery. Wind adds movement. Dark clouds create tension. Sunlight breaking through a storm can suggest relief and hope.

You don’t need to memorize a dictionary of weather terms to begin. Tools such as Kre8or’s Enhance can suggest details. Our job is to decide how we want the image to feel, look carefully at the result, and guide the next change.

For these examples, I used a lake photograph and first replaced the people with fictional AI-generated kayakers. The weather scenes that follow are AI alterations, not photographs of an actual storm.

Starting Small: A Little Morning Mist

My first request was simple:

“Add low morning mist over the lake for a quiet, mysterious mood.”

Kre8or added fog along the water, softened the distant shoreline, and shifted the bright sunshine toward cooler morning light. The kayakers remained visible, and the scene felt quieter.

To my eye, it leaned more toward peaceful than mysterious. But that short prompt gave me a useful starting point without needing technical language.

What Enhance Added

Next, I returned to the sunny base image, entered the same short mist prompt, and clicked Enhance.

Kre8or suggested photographic textures, clear reflections, soft morning sun rays filtering through thin fog, and a wide eye-level view.

The result had warmer light and glowing mist. It felt welcoming and peaceful—perhaps even hopeful. Beautiful, yes, but not quite the mystery I had in mind.

That’s where our judgment matters. Enhance can develop an idea, but its choices may take the mood in a different direction. We can keep those choices, change them, or try another approach.

Giving the Mist a Clearer Job

For the next version, I remixed the warm mist image and gave more specific direction: thicker fog partly hiding the distant shoreline and background kayakers, cool blue-gray tones, and dim light without golden sunbeams. I wanted the foreground kayakers to remain visible.

This time, the scene felt closer to the quiet mystery I was imagining. The fog concealed part of the view, making the distance less certain.

The useful question wasn’t simply “Should I add fog?” It was “What should the fog hide, and what should remain clear?”

That connects with our earlier lessons about depth and focus. Atmosphere can soften the background and help direct attention, too.

When the Storm Changed More Than the Weather

Next, I returned to the sunny base and asked for a threatening storm: dark clouds, slanting rain, choppy water, and splashes against the kayaks. I also asked Kre8or to preserve the people, clothing, boats, and composition.

The storm looked dramatic—but the people and kayaks changed, and the scene was rearranged.

That result taught me something worth remembering: a prompt can receive a 100/100 score and still produce an image that misses important instructions. I needed to judge the picture, not just the score.

I saved that attempt because it shows why reviewing the result matters. Before admiring the clouds, check whether the people, objects, and setting you wanted to keep are still there.

Weather Needs to Affect the Whole Scene

I returned to the sunny base and tried a shorter instruction: edit only the weather, keeping the people, boats, and setting unchanged.

This attempt preserved the scene much better. Dark clouds and rain appeared, but the lake remained fairly calm. It felt more like a passing shower than a threatening storm.

So I refined that result with one specific request:

“Make the existing lake water visibly choppy with short wind-driven waves, scattered small whitecaps, and splashes against the kayak hulls. Break up the mirror-like reflections.”

The next image showed more movement and splashing while keeping the kayakers recognizable. Some strong reflections remained, and the smiling paddlers still softened the sense of danger.

That became another lesson: weather needs to affect more than the sky. Water, light, clothing, and even expressions contribute to whether the scene feels convincing.

When the Weather Offers Hope

For the last example, I returned to the sunny base and asked for a storm that had just passed: retreating gray clouds, warm sunlight breaking through, gentle ripples, and no falling rain.

The result felt hopeful. Light warmed the shoreline and kayakers, while the remaining clouds provided contrast. Their smiling expressions suited this scene much better than the threatening storm.

Kre8or also changed the shoreline and gave more space to the sky, so it wasn’t an exact match to the original composition. But it demonstrated the mood I wanted: relief after unsettled weather.

The clouds had a different job this time. They helped the returning sunlight tell a story.

Give Your Weather a Purpose

These experiments reminded me that a longer prompt isn’t automatically a better prompt—and a beautiful result isn’t always the result I intended.

Before generating, ask yourself:

• What should this scene feel like?
• What should the weather reveal, hide, or set in motion?
• How should it affect the light, water, surroundings, and people?
• What needs to stay unchanged?

Start simply. Try Enhance for suggestions, then read what it adds. After generating, compare the result with your intention. A focused adjustment may help, but even instructions to preserve the scene can be missed.

Keep your base image and save your prompts alongside the results. Return to the base for a fresh comparison, or remix a result when you deliberately want to build on it.
