What did you use to do for Halloween?

Let's see who can remember. If you are willing, please share.

Memory Lane------MY HALLOWEEN Events

Remember when as kids, we could go trick or treat where ever we wanted?

Mom wouldn't have to check our candy (unless she wanted some!!!)

As kids, we would get Pop Corn Balls, Carmel Apples, candy corn and pumpkins wrapped in saran wrap and tied with a ribbon.

The kind of candy we didn't like: orange slices, black and orange wrapped candy,

As kids, my sister and I would go to the Officer's Housing Quarters because we would get pennies, nickels, dimes and sometimes quarters. We thought we were Something.

Chocolate candy was like gold. Not many families in military housing could afford chocolate.

My costumes--I would be a gypsy wearing as much jewelry as I could get on. I loved jewelry back then and still do.

At 16 I went to work for Dog n Suds as a car hop. One time I got a $5.00 tip, from this elder gentleman. I thought I was rich. One Halloween I soaped the windows of Dog n Suds. The bad part was I had to clean it up on my shift the next day.

When I worked for the Navy, I dressed up as a Witch (blonde long hair wig, 6 pair of men's socks created my boobs, my face painted 1/2 white and 1/2 black. I didn't talk to anyone which helped keep my secret. I visited our Command Headquarters and saw the CO. He couldn't guess who I was. I had forgotten I had to bowl that night. I struggled just to pick up the ball let alone throw!!

Let's see who will share.

Thanks for sharing that Sharon. Unfortunately I live in Australia & until recently we did have Halloween. We had Guy Fawkes night with fireworks, but no dress ups...

I would like to see Guy Fawkes night. What does it entail? Never heard of it.

Thanks for sharing.

It was a time many years ago, that was one night of the year, that in the lead up you could buy fireworks & let them off on that one night.. Together with a huge bonfire, thinking about it now no wonder they banned it, it sounds so dangerous...

Good post. Happy Halloween everyone!

Thanks, Tec2man,

Same to you and yours.

Great story Sd, have a great night ;)

We had a great nite. Kids were out until 915 pm I was shocked cause they were tiny.

I almost always dressed up as a hobo. I did go far and wide throughout my neighborhood to gather candy. Thee were so many kids out that the security in numbers was always in effect.

Me and my two siblings always got a lot of candy and there were not too many that I did not like.

You saw kids and their parents, occasionally, dressed up in any number of costumes. Not too many in my neighborhood could afford to buy them from from the store.

As a parent, one of the things I remember is my wife and I decorating my second son as a Pumpkin. We could not get the orange out of his hair for a month or so!

Many people now, usually those who are politically correct proscribe certain costumes and this destroys the effect and fun of the holiday. These folks ruin many things that have been traditions for a long time because they can not control people if those same people can continue to do what is fun and/or productive.

ps: Happy Halloween!

Yeah those folks, don't know how to PLAY.

Thanks for the sharing.

My mother made a monkey costume out of long johns dyed brown. My dad was the "organ grinder" and I was his monkey.

Very cool. very creative. I bet you had a lot of people watch you!!

Thanks for sharing

As one Navy vet to another good background. Remember when you used to be able to bob for apples. That obviously went by the board for health reasons!

I am not sure what happened, cause we were still bobbing for apples when my kids were young. Might have been they left the scene when razor blades were found in the candy. Hate it for the kids We always had so much fun.

Great share, and have fun on Halloween,

I did. I saw many princesses and scary people.
