Hi, I am thinking about redoing my website with a new focus...How do you delete pages on your website without losing google ranking?
Ranking is based on pages/posts. If you remove them...
Worth doing if you wish drastic changes for better.
I am making some drastic changes for the better and the pages are not ranking very well at all... I will only be deleting the posts, not pages if that makes a difference. What I was wondering is there a way to do it that minimizes the negative effect from google?
It may change traffic and then drop in ranking. But if they were useless you will not suffer a lot. But I would not care if I have a clear idea what to do next.
I missed to add, ranking is always through individual pages and posts, there is no site ranking.

Hello,
I have followed all the Google rules and had 3 pages in the top ten "on the first page"
Today when I was checking...one page had dropped 133 positions another 115
It's just weird I had my site go up 22 spots one day and then back down 22 the next. I have no idea how they do it.
Hmm.. this can be caused by many factors.
- Duplcate content
- Change of domain (domain age counts within the ranking algorithnm of google),
- Site not updated frequently enough.
- Competition getting a higher page rank (page rank generated by incoming links to your website, its not the same as ranking position on the search engines.
- Site loads Slow, google ranks slow loading websites lower.
Etc.
Hello
I checked the webmaster tools and there is no duplicate content.
In fact, in the site manager... I have been watching my site trust for a few weeks and it went from 20% to 30% on the day this happened?
All of this has been checked and it is all good.
I wish you could contact Google to ask why...
Thanks Scott
Hi,
I cannot contact Google on behalf of a third party.
Google will also have no clue except if they penalized your site for some special reason which I doubt.
Hello Catherine,
The only thing that I have been doing is working with the guy that made my theme straighten out some structured data errors...
No duplicate content I hope maybe I should check that.
Thanks
Scott
Hi Scott, I had that also with one of my sites that I changed from siterubix to its own domain name. It fluctuated a bit for 1 week and a half, but slowly going back up. have you changed anything like that lately? Do you have any duplicate text that Google may not like?

I have been checking where I am ranking in google for a keyword phrase...
I don't rank on the first 20 pages of google.
I am on the 2nd page of bing why?
Thank
Great question...and one day I'm on Google #1 page and the next I am not found...?????????????
If honest and frank, as that is me, lol, I'd have to say, I don't believe anyone really knows the answer to this, in all fairness, BUT WITH THAT SAID, Kyle is successful, he is as honest and real as they come, so therefore, if we continue doing what he is showing us, then I believe as well that the cards will fall where they fall; again, coming from a guy who has gained nothing in his attempts prior to WA, learning and knowing zip near what is now being taught to me by Kyle, so we all have everything to gain and nothing to lose in my humble estimation. :)
Hello Kevin,
You are right we are getting the training we need, and I know that I am on my way... I just found it weird that it would be that way.
Thank you for the reassurance though it does make me feel a little more sure of it!

Google uses a different ranking algorithm then Bing. For example, Google puts a high importance on how many incoming links your website has. More so then on page SEO, although SEO is also very important of course .
Different algorithms.
I have an old adsense site ranked very highly on Bing for no reason I can explain. It too is nowhere on Google. But gets some traffic from Bing instead. ( That's one reason why I never use Bing to search. It throws up some bizarre results.)
http://patch.com/connecticut/orange/the-differences-between-google--bing-seo-algorithms this might give you a bit of an idea of the differences between Bing and Google and maybe it might help you see why Bing would rank you differently. Whats your web address and what's the keyword you're trying to rank for?
