The Keys To Effective Online Writing
While I've only recently joined the Wealthy Affiliate community, I've done online content creation and writing for a little over 4 years now. In that time, I've personally discovered a few things which may help you along the journey.
1. Go for the long haul.
It's easy to say to yourself that you'll write a post every day, or even multiple a day, but it's a completely different task to actually do it consistently. So don't make promises to your audience that you can't keep. If you think you can do a post a day, just take a step back and make it a post a week. Sure, it might seem slow at first, but if you consistently post only one article a week every week for a year, then that's 52 quality, unhurried articles that you'll look back on and be proud of. Yes, you can always do more than that, but again, don't promise your readers 3 posts a day and only end up deliver 1 every other week.
2. Plan ahead.
You might think writing about your passion now is a dream job, but after about your 20th post, you may soon start to realize that you're repeating yourself. Simply taking the time to sit down with a journal and writing out different topic ideas is worth its weight in gold. It helps to give you foresight, assists you by showing you what you need to write next rather than thinking half-heartedly about it for a week straight, and it acts as a visual checklist that you can cross off once you've completed an article for a specific topic.
3. Write for yourself.
Whether you've got an audience of 2 or 200,000, your content will only be as good as your interest in it. While the end goal is to obtain income from your work, if you're not enjoying it, then you're doing something wrong. Sure, it might take dedication and it might not always easy, but that shouldn't automatically make it unenjoyable. Your best content will always come out when you write it for yourself rather than others. By that, I mean writing for the joy of explaining and exploring your passions in life, even if it means nobody will ever run across it on the Internet. Millions of people already do this just for the sheer joy of it. If you follow that example in addition to taking advantage of the various recourses which Wealthy Affiliate already offers largely for free, then there's really no way you'll be setting yourself up for failure.
These aren't carved in stone, they're just what I've examine, but they work.
So remember: Go for the long haul, Plan ahead, and Write for yourself, and you'll be all set to write content for the digital age.
