Disparity in Google and Jaaxy search numbers explained.

Are you perplexed or discouraged by a keyword search that shows a great QSR in Jaaxy but renders a huge number of results in Google? Why do these numbers differ so much and who can you trust? The functionality of Google is quite mysterious but ultimately, Jaaxy is doing something in its processing that you are not in your Google searching.

Lets take an example of the keyword “Toddlers at Disneyland”. Jaaxy returns the following…

60 is a decent QSR according to our WA training so this looks like a useable keyword (though perhaps a little light on avg. searches).

What does Google return? That depends on how you enter the keyword. One rule of thumb when searching a keyword for SEO purposes is to enter it in quotation marks. This is because we want information that ONLY targets the exact keyword phrase. Note the difference below in the results…

The results drop from over 3 million to just over 45,000 with quotation marks. Still way higher than Jaaxy but a step in the right direction.

But the real change happens when we look at the LAST page of results rather than the first page. The bottom of page 1 of the second example above looks like this...

The numbers under the logo refer to result page numbers. We only have access to the first 10 pages here. To gain access to more, click on 10 (or whatever the last number is in the sequence). In this case doing so reveals the following…

This is what is shown when we’ve gone beyond the max amount of pages available in our search. But wait, I thought there were over 3 million results??!! Apparently not! Also notice that the pages listed are now limited to 6 i.e. page 6 is the last page. Click on the 6 and we see this at the top of page 6…

54 results!! Much more in line with the QSR that Jaaxy returned. So the key here is accessing the LAST page of the search results in Google which will tell you the real number you’re concerned with. This is essentially what Jaaxy is doing in a single step.

Sometimes there ARE still hundreds of results in which case the last page may be in the 20s or 30s or higher. In these cases you may have to click through the last page shown at the bottom several times to get to the actual last page but the process is the same.

You can also go into Google settings at the top of the page, select "search settings" and change the "results per page" setting from the default of 10 to 100. This will get you to the last page quicker (page 1 may be it in some cases!).

Here’s a post from a few years back that also addresses this issue from a different angle.

This post is quite clear and informative. Makes that keyword search even more interesting. Thank you.

Excellent post - I agree with flover06 that this should be part of the keyword training, or at least a footnote with links to more information within the training. This is the kind of thing that possibly could stop WA students/members in their tracks, causing them to lose momentum if they get confused by a perceived difference in Jaaxy results vs Google results.

This is really helpful - thanks!

Wow such an eye-opening post... I think it should be incorporated with the material taught on the course to stop so much confusion and disappointment .... thank you again for such a great post

Glad it helped!
