About Schalkl

Hi, my name is Schalk

I live in Auckland, New Zealand. Have been married for 30 years, and have two wonderful daughters and one very loving grandson (who is now 2).

Although I have a background in IT (business analysis) I had absolutely no clue about internet marketing when I joined WA. Now, more than two years later, I can honestly say that I have learned a lot in that time, but there's still LOTS more to learn...

I have made my first online sale, but I know there is still a lot I have to improve before I will make a decent income online.

Fortunately, I have a full-time job, so at this stage I am not relying on my IM income (yet), but my aim is to change that. I want to get to a point where I earn just as much from IM as I do from my job.

With patience, slowly learning more and more, and applying what I learn, I will get there - sooner than I might think today.

The following three quotes will inspire me through this journey:
1) "Do or do not... there is no try" - Yoda
2) "Thoughts become things... choose the good ones" - Mike Dooley
3) "When you know what you want, and want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it" - Jim Rohn

Yes, I'm a big fan of Jim's. I once attended a short training course he did back in 1999 in Cape Town.

Thank you for the kind welcome message, Schalk. Jealous that you live in New Zealand, but I guess I can't complain myself ;) I look forward to my future here at WA and getting involved!!!

Yes, I sometimes still cannot believe my own luck when I think of my life in New Zealand (we emigrated from South Africa a short 3 years ago). But the biggest opportunity, I believe, is what we do with what we learn here at WA - that will truly open doors for us to live anywhere we want...

Hi again - question: how did you come by the madmarketingmethod? It's the same course that Louise M is also giving away and when I looked at it yesterday I was most impressed and got the impression that she had created it.

Hi Schalk. We became Buddies a long time ago. I left WA 18 months ago, even though I knew I would miss the community. But I was spending most of my time socialising with buddies and learning stuff without doing much. The Site Rubix wasn't at all as easy to use as made out and the forum was full of people being stuck, so I never dared take WA up on the free hosting, because then I'd be really stuck if I wanted to leave. Now I've come back on a special offer and with the hope that Wordpress Express would be better, but judging from your blog post it isn't. I read a blog post by someone else who was stuck so I am not sure whether I'll stay here when my month is up. But it's nice to find that you arestill here. Some of my main contacts from before are either no longer here or no longer active.

Hi Isabella
Here's my take on things. WA has a wealth of tools that I can use to learn the trade, and lots of people only too willing to help. And if I want to have a site I'll need hosting in any case, so my monthly WA fee (which allows my to host 3 sites, if I'm not mistaken) I see as paying towards hosting, and the training is a free bonus.
As for creating my sites, I'll stick to XSite Pro, because it is an excellent tool, which is easy to use and very powerful.
If you're interested, you can check them out. Their site is at xsitepro.com. Should you consider buying it and you want to go through my affiliate link, it is http://tinyurl.com/29btpt9

Great idea and website really needed. The great thing about WA is the ability to to take an idea and create it within the walls of WA and send that message out to the world. I can think of a lot of men that need this, weather they would listen or not is another thing. I'm thinking I would like to find a place within my own website and link your site to it. I would need to brain storm it. Your a good man. Cheers!

Thanks, Carmen. Wow, I admire you - three active websites! I can barely find time to work on my one site (I'm still in full time employment because I still don't make enough money from IM to be able to do it full-time. But I *know* that it is just a matter of time before I'll make a breakthrough and start earning a regular income online.

Wonderful! I hope you enjoy your visit to PN. I've only been in NZ for just over 2.5 years now (born South Africa) but I love NZ, and I don't think I could love it more if I'd been born here. I'll see you at the top of the internet marketing success stairway...

Hi......Nice to meet you here at WA......I am new too ... started on May 30th. As a suggestion, be sure to notice that there is a few items on your screen to use....look down to the lower left side and see the Notes and Bookmark thing. This will help you alot keeping ideas and notes and be sure to bookmark as you go through your lessons.....it really helped me when I started using them. I have kept my notes on my blog. A few of us Newbies got together and exchange emails. Our goal is to get it going and to discover some easy methods to get a beginning. We made up a little Mini Business Plan you might like and we also started a Unofficial Newbie Club...all free stuff too. Stop by my little blog and see if any of this step by step is of help to you. We are all about helping each other get going so we can get some income to cover our monthly cost.....stay in touch when you have time....Take care...best of luck....it is great to have a friend in New Zealand. We now have friends around the world and we have learned that people worldwide can be best of friends in spite weird politicians and the crazis of the world.....this is great..we learn and it brings us together.. Hello--I appreciate your photo. Did Peggy take that? Very beautiful background. Makes me want to get back to work so my hubby of 20 years and my internationally travelled 16 year old daughter can go on vacation. Did that make $en$e?

Hi Suzi. Sorry for taking so long to reply - the last two months have been hectic at work, resulting in me getting home too tired to do any web-related work.
Thanks for your comment about the photo. My wife took it one Sunday afternoon when we went driving. We also love traveling, and when (not if) I make enough from the 'net to resign my job we'll do a lot more traveling. New Zealand is so beautiful and we haven't even seen 1/4 of it.
I hope you can quickly reach your dream of traveling to interesting places.

Hi Devan, sorry it took me so long to respond - things have been hectic at work the last two months.
I tried (without any success) to promote the weight-loss program suggested by WA. Have now started thinking about creating my own eBook.
Not sure what great things you heard about New Zealand... it is a very beautiful contry, and definitely worth traveling to.

Thanks for the nice comments. I live near the Rocky Mountains in Southern Alberta.
I've always thought New Zealand was a gorgeous place and it would be fun to live there! Right now it is -14C and we have a foot or more of snow. At the sides of the road it is piled up almost 4 feet tall in places. But there is a beauty to all the white. Also, there is a Chinook wind coming tomorrow or Wednesday. (A chinook wind is a warm wind that will warm things up 20 degrees in a day; sometimes less). So, I imagine there will be flood-like conditions in a few days. We're used to it. In fact I have come to appreciate it because Southern Alberta tends to be very dry in the Spring and farmers really rely on these Spring melts to get moisture down into the soil.
Well enough of the weather; welcome here. Your background will serve you well here. I would suggest that it doesn't matter which niche you tackle first; the main thing is to get started and get something done. If you think of your first niche as a school assignment rather than the biggest money-maker you will ever have then it puts it more into perspective. I put up a free blogger blog with adsense on it when I first got here, and then just let it sit for awhile while I went through the learning assignments and tutorials. Then when I learned about article marketing and started writing ezine articles, I wrote an article that someone published to their list and I got a lot of visitors, and some adsense money started to trickle in. Only about $1.50 per day at first, but that was what proved to me that this really works. This blog is certainly not a big money maker, and the money has since slowed down to about $5 per week, but it is my "baby." It is what taught me a lot of things, and I have moved on to bigger things that make more money.
I am not successful yet but every step gets me closer. I still consider myself a student and am not over the $500 per month mark yet.
Your experience in IM will be a lot different from mine, and maybe you will figure things out quicker than I did. Also, I still have 5 children at home, and so I really have to juggle my time.
Sorry this is getting so long. I guess I needed to talk or something.
Well take care and good luck in everything.
If you come to a snag that I can help you with I will certainly try.
Peggy

Hi Peggy, and thanks for the nice long message. I can see from what you tell me that you already have quite a few things nailed down. And with 5 children at home it can't always be easy. I only have one daughter left at home, the other one is married and still lives in Cape Town. Let's make this year a year of breakthroughs for ourselves! If I can quit my JOB, I'll have so many more hours available for article writing.

Hi there,
I've just buddied up with you.

I have a friend who loves single malt whiskies. Since you are knowledgeable, your knowledge and love for the subject will come through in anything you write, so that's great, but I'm just wondering whether you've considered how you are going to make money with it. If making money is your objective, then there's no point in building the best site on malt whiskies unless you have a way to monetize it. (Not trying to discourage you, just encouraging you to research something that you can promote before you spend a lot of time and effort on this niche.)
Reply
schalkl Premium
Hi there, you are right, it will be more of a challenge to monetize, but there are some whisky wholesalers who have affiliate programs, so it should be possible.

Hi Brian, thanks for asking. I'm finding it VERY hard - the whole research thing to get your niche, etc seems so "wolly" (for lack of a better word) to me. I'm a paint-by-numbers type of person, so I struggle with the open-to-every-way type of stuff. BUT I *think* I have found a niche, and have registered my domain. I'm very fond of Scottish Single Malt whiskies, and am probably more knowledgeable on single malts than your average joe, so I'm going to try to build a site around single malt whiskies!

Welcome to WA. Just check out all the information that WA has to offer. Begin and keep learning and give it time to develop, be patient and you have a great playing field to work with. This is the best site by far in regards to an education in Internet Marketing techniques. I am new to WA however I am not new to Affiliate marketing. I am starting to network and eventually that will pay off..and add to this great community feel here at WA. All I can say is get involved and don't give up. You are at a place of integrity which is hard to find these days on and offline.
Feel free to ask questions here there are a number of nice knowledgeable people available to assist.
I'm Brian from Oregon and I have been an IT person for 8 years at a call center. Now I am a student. So with that said, let's network.
To your success.
