Quilt While I'm Ahead

It's been quite a balancing act as well as a challenge finding enough hours in a day to accomplish all I want and/or need to accomplish. I'm torn between 1) spending quality time here at WA, 2) spending quality time between four diffeent social media sites and 3) spending time on my sewing machine. Much of my content requires me to produce - quilt and/or sew then photograph - something. Having content (product) that is worthy of publishing can be time consuming but that is only the half of it. Being a novice photographer and living too many miles from even a free lance photographer that I like and trust means I need to add the task of photographer into the mix! :-)

I did spend some time yesterday outlining how I would spend my time today (Sunday) and tomorrow (Monday - for those of you half a world away where it is already Monday!) and allocated a 2 hour block for WA for today on my task sheet.

Here I am after 4+ hours (off and on), and taking a break to watch the KC Chiefs 38 - 28 win over the LA Chargers to write another post.

Either my time management skills need tweaking or I need a new clock...

The point of this rambling - to set myself another goal. To finish sewing and quilting my current project and get it mailed to the recipient by the end of this week.

The next item on my list will be to redesign my task sheet so that it better represents my increased number of obligations and responsibilities

After that, I will hopefully have more time to devote to creating and publishing content that is somewhat high quality but less time consuming.

What time management strategies do you use?

I use my google calendar and sync with my iphone works for me

Hi Susan!
I think you have addressed an issue we all face at some point.
(Go Chiefs, by the way!)
It is difficult to choose between important and urgent. We may be working on something important but when the phone rings and interrupts us that becomes urgent. (Unless you can ignore a ringing phone, which I can’t!)
We all have to find some kind of time management system that (mostly) works for us, and forgive ourselves when things go awry.
Other than adding another 10 hours to the day I don’t know what the best answer is.
Good luck!
KyleAnn

Adding 10 hours - even 5 would be nice but then I have to find time for extra sleep! :-)

Re the chiefs - still can't believe that game...they actually played well AND won!

I set a rigid timetable for my activities on a daily basis. It changes day by day because of social commitments I may have.

If something doesn't get done in the time slot, then it has to go on to the next day or possibly later in the same day, but outside any scheduled tasks I may have.

Derek

I'm going to do the same. There is something about being able to check off tasks as you complete them and having a sense of structure that makes me feel like I've accomplished something - even when I don't really have that much to show for it!

I don't recommend my strategies, I fly by the seat of my pants. I feel very much like you at the moment, to many tasks. I am working out the best way to plan my day though, I think it will be the only thing that will get me back on track. If I find a great strategy, I will be sure to share. In the meantime, I wish you the best.
Mary

Oh yes - I'm well versed in "flying-by-the-seat-of-my-pants". It served me well until now! :-)

You're doing well Susan. You already have all the colors in the spectrum in the balance!

Thank you for your kind words! So good hearing from you!

Sounds exciting and very busy

Since joining WA I've had to re-introduce the concepts of structure and discipline into my routine but yes it is also fun and exciting. Anytime I learn something new it is exciting!

I can relate I love learning this technical stuff to.
Blessings
