If you look up to the top-left corner, there's an "i" in a circle.
If you click that, it will pop out a little balloon window with the word count in it.
Great. Thank you so much. I'm sure I will come across some other questions about the new editor. Do you know if there is a tutorial?
Sooner or later I'll give the block editor a second shot. Thanks for telling us where to find the word count. I think I just need to test drive Gutenberg a few more times. Definitely a learning curve involved.
My suggestion to most people that aren't sure is to create a test site on SiteRubix (i.e. one of the free subdomains) and just have a play around and see what you can build. That way it doesn't matter if you delete the post in the end.
Sure, there's quite a few popping up now.
I recommend that you take a look at our very own Marion's guide to Gutenberg (she's was a total hipster - she was using Gutenberg before it was cool) : WordPress Gutenberg: Create a New Post using WordPress 5.0 Gutenberg (Scroll to the bottom to see the links to the other training videos Marion's created about Gutenberg).
Here's a couple of external guides that look pretty clear:

Where is the word count shown in the wordpress new editor?

That's a good question because I never found it for the few minutes that I used it. I just downloaded the classic plugin to all my sites and continued with the classic for the time being. Hopefully, Wordpress improves their new Gutenberg editor in time, as the Gutenberg plugin prior to its introduction received a 2.2 out of 5 stars in reviews.
Yep, just read it. I'll give it a shot sooner or later. I did think it was well laid out when I stumbled across it, but it didn't comply with what I wanted it to do. But then again, Wordpress will definitely continue updating the system, so they'll turn it into a ringer!
It's actually quite fun once you get the hang of it!
But it's certainly a different way of working too.
I can understand those that want to just use the classic editor.

Yesterday my internet went down for several hours. Since it's return I have not received any emails from WA. I usually receive multiple emails daily. My settings look OK. T
Hi Loes,
I actually use an ATT/Yahoo account which I have used for years. I had no problems with WA since I joined last August until now. I was actually trying to ask a question on the WA site when my internet went down. It came back up a few hours later but haven't received a WA email since Friday the 22nd at 1AM and that was WordPress.
Saul
Hotmail and yahoo do see WA mail as spam, I used Hotmail, and after a year WA mail just stopped, Gmail has the best credentials. Open a Gmail account, add your new email address to your account settings, and your problems will be solved
I had trouble with this a few weeks ago. I shut down my laptop and rebooted, checked that I had the root of my emails correct and then started increasing my chatter, just to see if it was working. Suddenly a whole wave of WA mails came through! They headed for my spam file but I was able to redirect to the correct place. All been fine ever since. :)
Thanks. I tried this and it didn't work. At least not so far. How long did you have to wait?
Saul
it was certainly a few hours, it was strange, as if they'd got stuck somewhere, like a blocked drain, and Id poured Mr Muscle Drain Unblocker on them ! Then whoosh they were all back!
Hello Saul,
I don't know if I can help with your question, have you tried sending an email to yourself to check that your email is working correctly? Also in the drop-down menu on the right-hand side, where your profile photograph is, go to account settings and scroll down to check your email notification settings. I appreciate that you may have already tried this. All the best, Roy.
