Tips on How to Work Successfully from Your Home
I imagine most of us spend a majority of our time working through Wealthy Affiliate courses, training and creating our content etc from home.
Working from home may at first sound like a dream and a great luxury. I admit, that working or doing work from home, does have its perks - full access to your own fridge, a window table - if you want, working in your PJs...this list goes on!
But here, are also some other realities - getting distracted all the time by our friends and family, not being able to get into the "work mode", taking too many breaks, and believe it or not...overworking. Yes, I have talked to a few people during COVID period, who have been working from home, and it seems like working longer hours from home is more the norm that we would like to think!
So here, I 've decided to dedicated my first blog on outlining a few tips that will help make this process more successful.
1. Dedicated work space
Create a dedicated work space to work from. Make sure that this space is used only for work purposes. It is recommended to distinguish work and personal in your home space
2. Personalise it
Make it yours! Personalise your work space so that it is:
- Comfortable
- Has everything you need (office stationary, bottle of water, headphones etc)
3. Start with an outcome
Before you start, make sure you know what it is you want to achieve by the end of your work time
4. Schedule you day
Plan in advance your working hours and schedule in your work time, buffer time, and some down time
Ask yourself the following questions:
- When am I most productive?
- When do I concentrate best?
- When can you work uninterrupted?
5. Dealing with distractions
- Let people in your household know what you work hours are and when you may or may not be distracted
- Turn off or silence notifications on all communication devices (phone and laptop/computer)
- Get people who contact you to leave messages
6. Reward yourself
We get tasks done all the time but sometime we don't get ourselves enough credit
A great way to manage a big task/project is to split the task or project into smaller tasks. This way, the overall task/project feels more manageable and we minimise our sense of overwhelm and stress.
When we complete each task, it is really important that we reward our self. Celebrating little successes along the way, and rewarding our self helps us stay motivated and feel like we are moving forward. Tasks become less daunting and we can have some fun along the way.
Rewards don't have to be difficult or big. Perhaps try something like: - Treating yourself to a hot chocolate
- Humouring yourself with a funny You Tube video
- A bottle of beer/wine when you complete you last task scheduled for the day
- (Insert a favourite treat of yours)
I hope the above tips and suggestions are useful. Let me know what you think or if you have any additional tips to share with us.
All the best,
Sasikan

Yes, it is a lot of work especially if you do not have a focus on the system. I mean find your system to make it faster, efficient, and effective on every level. Florentino
Too true. Oh those boundaries with the family members are so necessary. Now can you please clarify what is a bottle of bee/day. It sounds like something good.
Hi Elise. Thanks for pointing out the bee/day. Haha I was trying to stick to a time limit with this post and didn't notice my spelling error. I meant a bottle of beer/wine or whatever is your beverage of choice! Cheers!

Thanks for sharing today.
Working from home does have many great benefits.
Having done this for the past 20 years I could never go back to working in an office environment.
Setting boundaries with family and friends is key, for some reason, people think because you work at home you are available at any time.
Have a great day.
Darren :)
Cheers Darren, wow i am sure the 20 years have flown by :)
