To add to the stellar advice Eric shared with you, I also appreciate advice Partha gives on this. Which is to find other posts where the blog isn't a direct competitor, but is complementary.
For example, if they are affiliates for the same things you are, you might not wish to link to them and steer your viewers to them.
But if they blog or video on the same topic, but not from your affiliate angle then it is great to link to them. This also could be a way to form a relationship with some of these similar themed folks and do a collaboration down the road as well. Or they may at some point decide to link to you as well since you aren't competing with them.

External linking is important and a good idea as long as you're bringing value to the reader. Don't overfill your content with external links (obviously), and make sure you have a good balance of internal links too, but when you're creating content and can link to a relevant piece of content or video from outside your site and it adds and compliments your article, this is a good thing.

So what I understand is that if I’m writing a new blog post, I should always take the time to research two or three posts on the same topic from already established websites and - if it makes sense - link to their articles, right? How does it work in balance with my own posts, should I generally have more, less or an equal number of internal links in a given post?
If you’re trying to overtake a ranking post it may not be the best idea to link to it and potentially make it more powerful, know what I mean.
