Choosing the Right Platform for Your Niche - Learn with me

When I first started trying to figure out where to actually show up online , I made the mistake that I had to be everywhere. Spoiler: you don't have to be. And honestly, that is how you burn out.
Here is what I have learned below:
Step 1: Understand your niche first.
Before picking a platform , I ask myself:
- Who am I talking to?
- What kind of content do they actually enjoy?
- Are they scrolling for entertainment, education or inspiration?
Because a skincare audience behaves VERY differently from a business/marketing audience.

Step 2: Match platform energy to content type.
Here is how I break it down in my head:
- Instagram → visual storytelling, branding, quick impact
- LinkedIn → authority, education, professional growth
- TikTok → fast attention, personality-led content, trends
- YouTube → deep dives, tutorials, long-form trust building
- Substack / blogs → slow content, storytelling, thought process
No platform is better- it is just about how well it fits to your niche.
Step 3: Where does your audience already hang out?
This one changed everything for me. Instead of asking "Where should I post?", I started asking myself the following question: Where is my audience already paying attention? Because building on empty space is just exhausting.
Step 4: Pick ONE main platform first
I used to juggle too many and ended up doing nothing properly. Now I think of 1 main platform where I show up consistently and 1 supporting platform where I repurpose my content.
Conclusion
The right platform doesn't cause the most hype. The right platform is where your content feels more natural. Your audience actually responds and you can stay consistemt without burning out . I am still learning this as I go. But I am starting to realize that clarity comes after you start, not before
