How has Google Maps changed your life?
I've been doing a bit with Google Maps on my website over the past few days and it got me thinking about the ways it has changed my daily life!
- Remember the map book - no longer need one in the car!
- I plan my travel time to a location based on what Google Maps tells me
- I use Google Maps to find places I am not familiar with
- I trust it to re-direct me when there are traffic jams in our city - it gives me various options with time differences and saves me a lot of time and headache!
- I use it when I travel overseas to navigate my way in unfamiliar cities and settings
- I drop pins on places so I can easily find them again
- Google maps is great when out running or kayaking or biking - it lets me explore without worrying if I might get lost. It also enables me to judge my timing and distance.
I would love to hear how you use Google Maps and what you find are its most useful features?

I use google maps daily ... Kind of worrying though ... Feels naked when driving without it. Especially when in China ... it does not work there!
Yep - understand your thoughts. I use mine all the time even in places I know really well as it can alert on traffic etc.

I use Google maps quite frequently! I am a pet sitter, so I am always investigating new territory ;-)
We just had a pet sitter / house sitter in our place while we were in Australia for 10 days - what a great blessing and I think a win-win. We have a Golden Retriever, Parrot and Goldfish lol!

Yes, Google Maps are wonderful... I like it when we go on a trip somewhere different as it tells us the best way to go, but isn't it cool that you can map out your trip and save it to use on your website or whatever? It's so cool that it tells me exactly how far we went and how many klms it was... endless uses for google maps! All the best, Marilyn
Just by accident I found out only a year ago that Google maps gives directions. I always wanted to get one of those GPS gadgets but held back because of the $100 price tag. I am doing some football refereeing and my partners played with some GPS gadget in the car to a game. It turns out it was Google maps, and it included a 'voice'. Best of all, $0. Ever since I'm hooked.

Amazing how we happen to come across stuff at times. Best of all - its totally free. Google Maps must have put a lot of pressure on the Garmins / Tom Toms etc.
I am a musician, I used to rely on that map book on a regular basis to get to my gigs. Being on the road is no joke. Especially trying to juggle that book, a cup of coffee and a donut while driving.
Then, the GPS for autos came along and with its handy little suction cup, I could set my destination and usually get there without a hitch. i love that british girl's voice saying, "Re-routing. Rerouting" Over and over and over and over and over and over again. I went through a few of those things, because it easier to buy a new one than download the updates and install them. At least for me.
Now, with the Google Maps app on my phone, getting from one gig to the next is a pleasure. If you haave to take a detour or miss your turn, it just reroutes you without announcing it repeatedly. An all the extra features you used to have to pay extra for like slow traffic notices or cheapest gas stations - there all included, or else there's another app for it.
Yeah, it's definitely made my life a LOT easier!
I hear you - so much easier! Plug in your destination and listen to it guiding you all the way. Like you - love the fact that it doesn't berate you and remind you every time you miss a turn or go another way but simply and politely finds another way!
I also love that Google keep on adding more functionality and its accuracy keeps increasing.
