First Post on new walking track website to honour my father-in-law

I have just commenced a new niche website celebrating the work of my father-in-law who has built bush walking tracks in our city for the past 30 years. As the city has expanded and developers have left significant patches of bush to be enjoyed he has followed through and designed and built walking tracks - quite amazing and something to leave as a legacy to our wonderful city, Auckland, New Zealand.

This website has been a different challenge as I have tried to make it incredibly user friendly. This has included adding GPS Maps using my sports watch and then importing into Google Maps - a big learning curve. I have also integrated GoPro footage, elevations and more. Quite exciting and hopefully something that may grow into something bigger and profitable in the future.

I'm very excited about this - time for a celebration!!!

Thanks WA for giving me the skills.

Richard

Very nice idea!

Thanks - it's coming together well. A lot of learning and lot of work but will become a valuable resource.
All the best.
Richard

Bush tracks in the city. What a marvelous idea. Makes me wish more cities would be developed like Auckland.

Hi
We have literally hundreds around the city - plenty of green space. I think its one of the reasons Auckland gets voted in the top 5-10 livable cities in the world in almost every survey of this type. It certainly makes the place more open and just gives everyone somewhere to get away from the rat-race and breathe a bit.

Any large new development in out city has a requirement that x% of the land must be retained for recreation / green space - I believe it is 5-10% but not totally sure.

Of course - also good for physical health also as there are lots of places to walk, run and bike.

Thanks for the comment.

Richard

Fantastic requirement. Being in nature generally makes people and animalsfeel more calm, relaxed and even cheerful. Would be interesting to know how all the green in and around Auckland effects the health statistics of the Aucklanders. Like comparing number of green visits to number of doctor visits and such.
Oh well, that´s not for here. Still I think it´s awesome.
Have a jolly day, Richard

Thanks again for the response. I hope your website etc is coming on nicely.
Which city do you live in? I don't see any location info on your profile.
I like your thought about research on spending time in green places and visits to doctors etc. There must be some correlation.

Have a great day.

Hi Richard, I uploaded my website yesterday. It was an exciting moment as it´s my first website that I made. I moved to Nijmegen late last year. The downtown is very beautiful and also very un Dutch, because of the hills. Love walking the train bridge over the Waal. Or the old one and watch the trains pass by on the other.
Agreeing on the correlation.
Have a nice day,

Wow - looked up your city on google - looks really nice and a long history - not like our very young country.- WA is amazing how it guides and teaches.
I'll have a look at your site - very exciting. I am a novice too
Thanks again and all the best.
Richard

Yes, very old, founded by Caesar and his men. It´s in my profile now too, which is more complete now, thanks to your question.

I learn lots in WA every day. Especially technical stuff I know nothing about.

When you take a look at my website, leave a comment (not feedback) on the Getting Started page, if you´d like. I´ll return the favor of course, on your web page of choice, now or at a future time.

Enjoy your day,

Great accomplishment It will be a fitting tribute.
Tim

Thanks Tim and all the best also.
Richard

Well done on your progress :)

Thanks - its been in the pipeline for a while but had to wait until my youngest started some full days at pre-school to have the time to get it up and running.
All the best.

Great work Richard and a useful resource for those who enjoy walking in Auckland. Wish you the best of luck with this interesting project.

Thanks so much for taking the time and the feedback. Appreciated.
All the best.

Great site Richard, you have obviously put a lot of work into it, and I am glad that WA gave you the skills to achieve this! It is a great honour for your father-in-law and something the whole family can be proud of! Regards, Lisa

Hi Lisa
I echo your comment and am very thankful to WA as I had little idea before coming here. When I get stuck, I search the WA site and if needed then ask a question - invariably getting the answer I need.
My father - in -law is 82 and still doing stuff in the bush - I wanted to get this done while he is still fit enough to walk the tracks together.
Thanks and all the best too.
Richard

Well done Richard, bit of work in that one, your new site looks really good. Take a bow, best wishes moving forward.

Thanks so much for taking the time to look and comment. Yes - quite a bit pf work getting to this point but pretty happy with the progress. Had a lot to learn about Google Maps and some other functions.
Of course - this site is not so much about the money as getting my in laws tracks online. However, I think down the track it can do well.
Appreciate the encouragement and all the best.
Richard

It looks like an interesting project, wishing you much success.

Thanks. Initially it's just to have it up and available and then we'll look at monetizing. I've had to learn lots about Google Maps etc. Been fun, frustrating and satisfying.
Thanks and all the best.
Richard

Looks like a great project, best of luck to you!

Thanks - yes - a great thing to be able to do and a lot of fun also.
Have followed you and wish you every success.
Richard

Wish you the very best Richard - sounds so exciting!!

Anna

Thanks for this. Yes - it is exciting and I think it can become a great resource over time. I am also hoping to be able to share some of my learning here at WA also regarding Google Maps, GPS usage etc.
Thanks again and all the best.
