Discovering a lot about integrating Google Maps

I'm on another whole learning curve - integrating Google Maps into my website.
This is not just static information of a location but getting GPS tracking from my sports watch downloaded and then importing via .gpx files into a Google Map. Yesterday I managed to get step one completed - I have a map on my website with the walking track I walked on Wednesday!
I now have a couple more action steps to complete:

1. Review some more of the WP Plug-ins that work with Google Maps - so far they seem too limited for what I need to do - they are a lot more dealing with static map information.
2. Work with Layers so I can have a map of my City / Region with all different walks located and then drill to individual walking track maps.
I also am wanting to test that as I walk the track you can see my actual location on Google Maps so you can follow where you are on the track. I think this feature can be a real winner with users.
I'll keep you all posted on the progress and look at doing a training once I am confident in what I have learned. I did not find a lot on WA about working with Google Maps.
Cheers
Richard
