Content Building 101

Do you ever get stuck occasionally when thinking about a subject for your next article?

I know I do.

It’s interesting just how our thought process’s work.

Let Me Explain...

If I were to ask you to name say 100 top rock groups from the last 30 years straight off the bat most people would get to 10 maybe 15 or even 20.

Strangely enough, if I were to name 100 rock groups most people would say “I know them”.

It goes to show that it’s all there in our mind.

The trick here is how we can break through this mental barrier so we can easily access what we already know.

When first getting started with a blog or content hungry authority website it can often be a killer to constantly be looking to what the ‘top’ guy’s in our niche are writing about.

Sure it’s good to get ideas but once comparisons come into play there can be a tendency to lose confidence thinking that your subject is not up to scratch.

That’s why is vital to write about what you know.

You'll Be Surprised At Just What You Have To Offer!

If you're new to the internet marketing industry and think you have nothing to offer as yet consider this.

Why not write about the way you found your current training platform like Wealthy Affiliate for example?

Do an article about challenges that people new to the industry may face.

Write an post about the best way to identify a scam for example.

Remember you are the authority and expert when offering your opinion. You don’t have to try to copy someone else, you can be your absolute self.

You'll be surprised at what you have to offer, remember; you are an expert at writing what you know about.

Here’s a short video by Ricky Gervais (a rare serious one for a change)

ALERT: In the first minute he uses a swear word/profanity so if you are offended by this don’t watch it!

In this first instalment of Creation Stories, Ricky Gervais shares an insight about an early, indelible writing lesson.

One connot know everything.

Whilst no one can know everything, one can have an opinion on it.

I know absolutely nothing about rocket science but I could do an article about "Why I know absolutely nothing about rocket science ".

It all depends in if you see the glass half full or half empty.

This is a great blog! I did like his point in the video of connecting! Thank you for sharing! :)

Thanks for your comment Christabelle, appreciate your input!

Thanks for sharing this!

You're welcome - looking forward to reading your 30 posts in 30 days !

Great advise Russ, really nice to hear for me at this stage in the game. Also, i've got a little posse of comment buddies and would love to get commenting back on your site and vice versa. Let me know by sending me an article to comment on and socially share.

I'm taking a trip to the coffee region of Colombia, S. America for the next 5 days, but I'll get to the comments in the evenings or when I get back.

Cheers,
Todd

Great to hear from you Todd.

Yeah, I stopped asking for comments on my actual website as apparently it's a no no. There are certain parts of the training whereby it is encouraged.

Good idea, I'd like to get comments/feedback on a particular post I did and obviously it's reciprocal.

Sounds like a great trip your going on, watch yourself down there. My son back packed throughout parts of South America and he said you have to be mindful of the dangers when in the wrong places etc.

Take Care

I'll check out your site again!

Thanks for your comments.........Russ

Hi Russ, good to hear from you too. I'd love more comments on my WA review. It's kind of new and zipped up anyway.

Interesting about the training on the comments. but either way send me your stuff, it's always good to read your articles and I love to see your site again.

Yeah, Colombia is not too bad, the major cities are easily traveled. But you have to be a mindful traveler wherever you go in my opinion, at least it's not Venezuela, Que Horrible!

Anyways, good to hear from you and talk soon.

Cheers,
Todd

Russ,
Thank you for sharing this post...it's very motivational.

I like what Ricky said during the end of the video about "trying to make the ordinary, extraordinary is much better than starting with the extraordinary" because it connects with people. He stressed the importance of writing about what we know and from personal experience, which is something I've also seen stressed in the WA training.

Great advice.

Thanks,
Pat

Thanks Patrick, Yeah - I thought it was very motivational also. It's true what you say about connecting as well.

Appreciate you commenting Pat, always good to get your input!

Russ

I've really needed to read that as I've been stuck in a rut lately.

Thanks for your comment, Defiant6 - I'm so pleased you were able to get some value from the post. We all get stuck now and again but at least we get stuck while moving forward, that's what counts!

Dust yourself off, take a breath and push forward.

Best Wishes...........Russ

thank you Russell, certainly worth watching. AM

Thanks Ann Marie, appreciate you commenting and pleased you enjoyed the post!

I think sometimes we do know more than what our conscious mind is telling us.
I have an article I want to write called "How to Stay Fit and Healthy for Over 60's". I was about to set off doing my research, when I came across this blog post.
This started me thinking that although I am almost 73 years old, I am pretty fit and healthy.
Why don't I write about how I have got to this age, without any serious illnesses?
I think this is what you are trying to tell us.
Let me know if this is what you are saying?
Garth

Thanks for your comment Garth.

Yes, you're exactly right. For many people, me included; there is a tendency to get carried away on subjects that we 'think' the market is looking for.

We read sophisticated articles that can make us think that our simple story may be too shallow or boring for the masses. The facts are we are not trying to deal with the masses, we are just looking for people that can connect with our message, our unique style, our genuine self.

You can write about how you got to the age of 73 and explain what brought you to WA, provide a link with the text to your WA review page etc.

As your readership grows and you know what your subscribers are looking for you can then research subjects and post about what you've found.

Thanks for commenting Garth, good subject matter and very appropriate to this blog post.

Appreciate your valued input.

Russ

Thanks Russ. Great video Ricky hit it. And always you did too Russ.

So pleased you liked it and thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it!

That was an excellent video clip! I like what he said about "Make the ordinary extraordinary!" Write what you know is always good advice. Thanks for the share, Russ!

Thanks for your comment Carla, glad you liked the clip.

It's not too often that you see Ricky serious but it was good while it lasted!
