I manage a website for a friends carpentry business and his homepage is quite bare. I want to add a background image but it then makes it very difficult to read text. I see a l
if you add a grey 10% overlay onto the image then you can see the text over any colour....
then add this to the background and you should be good
it jsut allows a bit of contrast to any colour text and is still readable...
use a progrm like photopea.com or canva.com to add another layer and have that as 10% transparent....

Why would you want an image on the background? As you found out it makes the text difficult to read. And if you put a solid colored background on top, a big part of the image won't be seen, but will be loaded and thus take away speed.
If the image is important enough to be seen, isn't there a spot where it can have its function?

a very good point. The reason I thought of a background is because I have seen many construction sites that do this and it just adds a bit more of a professional look rahter than a white background. However, I suppose the text is more important. thank you
Just because others do it, doesn't mean it's good practice. :)
A website looks professional because of its fonts, colors and logo used consistently; its readability and its user friendliness. And if the image shows the craftmanship of the website owner, I would put it in the sidebar with a catchy quote as title.

I agree with the comment by hmommers further down.
Even a busy frame picture with a white column will distract your readers from the actual content.
Simplicity is king.

I was going to tell you to look in the Google list but you already have your answers, I wish you great success.
Hi - yes, AWIN certainly does, and you are automatically enrolled in their program when you join. They pay £30 for each new publisher you refer, once that new publisher earns enough to get their first payout.
Hi - if you log in to your account and go to your list of advertisers, you should see AWIN listed. Go to the end of the line where it says actions and click on My Creative. This will take you to their banners.
Yes there are loads of Companies to Affiliate with and Awin is one of them so enjoy and go well
