Why consider affiliate marketing? My journey to Wealthy Affiliate.

My name is Rui Santos and I launched LisMel as my first entrepreneurial venture online back in May 2012. I was born in Lisbon, Portugal but migrated to Australia with my parents at the age of five. Melbourne, Australia continues to be my hometown.

The LisMel name is simply the hybrid of Lisbon - Melbourne. I chose this as my first registered business name as it reflected both my geographical location and my multicultural heritage. Very personable, but not a great keyword for an organic and natural goods retailer to find a share of online traiffic.

I launched LisMel as an online web-store to resell organic and natural goods. I was amazed that within a weekend I had launched LisMel online and had a home based business live on the internet with a few clicks of a mouse. That feeling was magical and I was truly amazed at what I had been able to create with very little knowledge or skill.

But! I also quickly discovered that creating a website nowadays was in fact a relatively simple task. Anyone who has at least learnt how to copy and paste can create a site these days. The real challenge was how to generate any traffic to my website. Without customers I only had a website. I didn't have a business and that was my goal.

Your business cannot survive let alone flourish without a steady flow of traffic to your website that you can convert into subscribers and/or customers.

To succeed online I had to slowly learn how to generate traffic and get enough visitors to my site to ensure I had a viable business. This was not the journey I had initially signed onto as a starry eyed entrepreneur but it was the one I needed to take if I wanted to succeed online.

My second key lesson, was understanding that I needed to learn how to Market online in order to generate the traffic and conversions needed to succeed. It doesn’t matter how good your product is or how pretty your website is, it’s all about the content and how well you can market that content to your potential audience.

So this has meant my journey as an online home business entrepreneur taking some big detours into learning about affiliate marketing, list building, branding, search engine optimization, traffic generation, blogging, content creation etc

This is why I've registered as a premium member at Wealthy Affiliate. I know this is where I need to be if I want to succeed online.

So don’t be in a hurry … it will take time, persistence and commitment to learn what you need to learn to create and grow a successful online business.

But like Kyle and Carson, many have gone down this road before me, and will help me do the same if I'm prepared to do things I haven’t done before, if I'm prepared to learn and invest my time, money and resources into achieving my desired goals.
