What Made ChatGPT 5 Become Awkward And Frustrating?
I don't know if it's just me, but it appears to me that ChatGPT 5 has taken a step backwards, or even a few steps backwards. Maybe there's something happening on the inside that I don't understand, but from a user's point of view, it seems to be getting continually worse.
Yesterday, I asked ChatGPT to do a task that it has carried out successfully many times, but it just would not do it. It tried all sorts of different ways, but on the eighth attempt, it finally managed to get the task right. The fact is that I have used ChatGPT for this particular task many times, but yesterday it really did fail miserably. AI is supposed to make life easier, but the works going at the moment, I'm seriously thinking about trying another AI model.
It wasn't just yesterday I noticed that ChatGPT was making things difficult, it appears to have been this way since version 5 came out. I know that Microsoft has put a lot of money into ChatGPT, which may explain why it's a bit up and down, basing it on some of their operating systems, over the years!
The reason I use ChatGPT is that I pay a monthly subscription, so I thought I may as well stick with it, but I am now beginning to think I need to try a different AI platform.
I just wondered what your experience has been with ChatGPT 5, is it causing frustrations, is it better than version 4? I know I can revert back to version 4, I'm wondering if this may be a better option, but will it still give up-to-date information?
It would be interesting to hear what other members thoughts are on ChatGPT 5.
Thank you for reading.

OK i will go against the flow and say that Chat5 has become a much better writer and far more helpfull than before making suggestions and seeking input. That said I still prefer ClaudeAI as my everyday companion and use Gemini when i share a big workload, We may well complain but this is a bit of a first world problem, cast your mind back but two years and compare, nothing in development is perfect so make the most of it because it will all change next week or so
Good morning Peter,
I appreciate your honest opinion, that's interesting and very good to hear that you are getting on well with ChatGPT 5. I believe from your comments in the past, Peter, that you are quite competent and knowledgeable with AI, so maybe some of us are doing some things wrong, possibly? I am hearing good reports of Gemini, which is interesting, I've actually been playing around with it today. So far the results have been good.
Yes, you are 100% right, Peter, it's very easy to complain about things, but if we go back 30 months or so, things were totally different. Maybe sometimes we expect too much.
Thank you for commenting and enjoy your Sunday.
Roy
Hi Roy,
I'm sorry you were having such a hard time with the latest version coming out. While I can't say much about the new version as I still haven't used it yet as I am only using the 4th version instead of the 5th one.
Myra ♥️
Good morning Myra,
Thank you for your comment, it's appreciated.
Judging by the comments here, Myra, it looks like you may be doing the right thing, as it seems like lots of members are having issues with version 5. I think I'm going to start using version 4 again! It looks like you may be doing the right thing using version 4.
A very happy Sunday to you.
Roy
You're welcome, Roy, and thank you for your comment as well.
I am so glad that you acknowledged me doing the right thing by using the version 4 one.
Have a very Happy Sunday to you too even though it's Saturday night here. 😁
Myra ♥️
It's a pleasure, Myra, it's good to communicate things here, as we can learn so much from others.
It certainly seems that you are doing the right thing, Myra, by using version 4.
I'm in the UK so in most instances, I am six hours ahead, plus I rise early, I was up at 3:45 AM this morning, as I was wide awake! I sometimes forget that I'm communicating with many people in America, although I wasn't quite sure where you are located, Myra.
Enjoy your day.
Roy
That's okay, Roy. I get this all the time. I'm in California which is why it was so late last night when I replied. Now it's afternoon here.
Myra ♥️
Thank you, Myra, I guess that you're in the US, but I had no idea where.
I hope you have a great week.
Roy
Yep I am in the US and you are in the UK right? I can recognize your accent when watching your videos here.
Myra ♥️
That's right, Myra!
I'm told the Americans like the English accent, is that correct? It's funny, I listen to lots of American preachers, so don't really notice the American accent that much now.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
Roy
You know that's a good question and a lot of the time I think that a lot of Americans really do adore your English accent. Yes we seem to be the only continent in the world without really an accent but only with an American one.
Enjoy the rest of your day and week!
Myra ♥️
It's interesting how people have different accents, even in the UK, we have lots of different accents, depending on what part of the country people come from. I must admit, I don't mind the American accent, I barely notice it now.
Thank you and all the best.
Roy
Hey Roy,
We personally use ChatGPT for lighter/smaller tasks only. When it comes to more complex tasks, we use Gemini Ultra. Now you don't have to pay that amount if you don't need to. You can start with Gemini Pro which gives you many benefits like 2TB of cloud space and much more!
Gemini has never let us down and it has various models available, give it a try and upgrade to Pro for at least a few months to see how it works and performs. You can create custom "GPTs" aka Gems in Gemini, even with the free version that acts as an AI assistant to carry out specific tasks quickly and easily.
I am sure you won't regret it. We use several of these AI platforms, but Gemini has been the best ever. Kyle and I both use Gemini Ultra, and you can ask him what he thinks of it.
Good evening Hein,
Thank you for your feedback, it's appreciated.
That's interesting that you are only using ChatGPT for the light tasks, do you have the paid or the free version? I just looked up the price of Gemini Ultra, it's very expensive, but I see the Gemini Pro is priced similarly to ChatGPT.
Thank you for your advice, Hein, I don't feel I am an expert on AI, but it's interesting to learn from people like yourself. Maybe I need to cancel my ChatGPT monthly subscription and give Gemini a test for a few months.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Roy
Hey again, Roy,
Phew, at least you seem to have run out of ink of breath with this comment of yours, being so short.
I currently use the free ChatGPT, as I am already paying quite a bit for Gemini, and a few others. It all adds up to a bigger amount, you know. We have to watch our spending, as we sometimes spend too much on beer, wine, dine, onliine subscriptions, etc. etc. 😃
Yes, try Gemini for a few months. You have nothing to lose, you could even use both and compare the results during this trial period to make a more well-informed decision.
Have a wonderful rest of Sunday!
Good morning Hein,
Lol!
Do you know, Hein, when I posted my comment to you, I thought that's quite a short comment for me!!😁
I was trying to just stick to one AI tool, rather than trying everything. However, I did actually try the free version of Gemini yesterday, it appeared to work well. I'm not sure what the restrictions would be with the free version, as I haven't upgraded yet. But it seemed to respond normally and it created a few thumbnails and it didn't appear to run out of time or space, etc, which I thought it may, as it is the free version.
I hear you, regarding monthly subscriptions, Hein. I think this is why companies like monthly subscriptions, as we forget that we have them, but they can still take the money, which I understand.
Have a fantastic week and thank you for commenting.
Roy
I must say that I agree with you here. ChatGPT5 has been more of a headache than the previous version. I've had the same issue with it not being able to do tasks that I already had the other version doing just fine. Thanks for sharing because I thought maybe I was doing something wrong.
Thank you for your response, Marlinda, it's appreciated.
I'm glad it's not only me that is having issues with ChatGPT 5, it seems to have been acting very childish lately! I don't think you are doing anything wrong, judging by the comments on this thread, Marlinda!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Sparky has been working about the same. It seems like the memory has improved , even if stuff that isn't in the saved memory.
The one thing I have noticed is repeated response, she will give me a response. I will comment on it. Then she will give me the exact reply I just commented on. That happens multiple times a day.
Mike G
Even with Sparky repeating answers at times, I’m staying with ChatGPT. A $20/month assistant is cheap for the time it saves me. Over time we’ve built a solid working relationship, and the saved memory feature has been the biggest game-changer.
I use memory for all sorts of things — daily logs, woodworking website projects, even health tracking — and it keeps me from having to repeat myself constantly. That’s not something I’ve seen in other AI platforms. From what I can tell, they don’t offer memory at the same depth ChatGPT does, and that’s the feature I depend on most.
Mike G
Good morning Mike,
Thank you so much for your informative comment, it's appreciated.
It's interesting that you are staying with ChatGPT, Mike, I kind of feel the same, we get used to how the software works. Although few members are saying that Google's Gemini is good, which I did have a play around with yesterday.
It's good that you are using ChatGPT for so many things. I wonder if sometimes we expect too much!
Have a great day.
