My Experience With "Buy Me A Coffee"

A couple of months ago, I added a "Buy Me A Coffee" link to my YouTube channel and to my website. The channel and website are generally about Internet marketing. I must admit that I haven't particularly read any instructions, I just created a buy me a coffee account and added the link to my YouTube videos and to my website.

According to my Google Analytics, my website views for the past two months have been precisely 84,131 views, however, the amount of coffee's received is zero! Now I appreciate that people don't go to YouTube or a website to purchase a coffee, however, I thought I may have perhaps received one or two coffees, possibly! I actually see buy me a coffee on quite a few websites, obviously on the large and more trusted channels, people are more likely to buy a coffee, especially if a particular video has solved someone's problem, or given them an answer, etc.

I'm guessing that the majority of people don't read descriptions, they probably just go straight to the video. I must admit I do sometimes read descriptions, but then I kind of enjoy reading things, but I don't think this is probably the norm. Also, I have never asked anyone to buy me a coffee, or at least I don't think I have, maybe giving a prompt would help, but I am not particularly someone who likes asking.

The main thing is for me to build my YouTube channel, not really to gain coffees. However, my YouTube channel is several years old and my posting has been very sporadic, which I know has definitely penalised the channel. The last few months, I have been pushing forward and making a lot more content, so it's definitely gaining momentum.

I will carry on leaving the links on the videos and websites, etc, as eventually, I'm sure it will happen. But the main thing is to provide valuable content, grow the channel and build relationships.

It would be interesting to hear about other members experiences with buy me a coffee and any tips, etc, as I haven't particularly carried out much homework, I literally just added a link.

Please feel free to leave a comment and get involved in the conversation.

Thank you for reading.

I've never heard about this trend Roy ( I am so far back in the times you wouldn't believe me)!!!

But... I'll more than certainly buy you a coffee... it has to be face to face though!!!!

Choose the location my friend!!

Good morning Nick,

That's okay, Nick, there are so many things available on the Internet, it's kind of unbelievable and we can't keep up with everything!

And there I was thinking that I was going to get my 1st cup of coffee online!! Let's meet in Greece one day, Nick, that sounds good!

I hope that you're doing well and I appreciate you taking the time to comment.😃

Have a great day.

Honestly...never heard about coffee on line before... but if you would like one then... there is a spectacular little corner cafe just round the corner here.... I'll have to check their delivery charges though..... :-))))

Sometimes, you can see this type of thing on YouTube, it may be placed or pinned as a comment on YouTube. Maybe that's the answer, Nick, just find a little café!!😁

Have a great day and thank you for commenting.

See you for a coffee somewhere around the globe then Roy!!!

Take care my friend! :-))

2

That sounds good, Nick.

I hope all is well with you.

Have a fantastic day.

Hi 👋 Roy,

Interesting… I just had a friend “Buy me a Coffee” today.

So, my take on this is there needs to be a relationship. At least the perception of a relationship. I do not think people will donate to buy me a coffee just because they found the information valuable. Sure on occasion, but I think that if you try to personally engage with the individual on the other side, you may be more likely to get someone to “support you” through your buy me a coffee link.

Hello Brad,

I hope that you are doing well. Thank you for commenting.

That's interesting and I hear where you're coming from! It actually makes a lot of sense and I believe that you are probably right!

I have booked a meeting with you, Brad, for tonight, UK time!

Enjoy your day.

Hey 👋 Roy,

I’m looking forward to our video chat soon.👍

Likewise, Brad!

I will see you soon.

Thank you Roy for this transparent and valuable sharing.
What you describe is the experience of many of us. We create, we share, we hope that the value offered will spark a gesture, even symbolic. But the reality is often quieter. For my part, this is not a failure, it is a mirror, that of fragmented attention, of rapid clicking, although generosity is not always there.
You're right, people don't always read the descriptions, and the explicit invitation, even subtle. But what I remember most is your consistency. You continue to create, to build, to believe that the relationship is built over time. And believe me, that's true wealth.
Maybe coffee will come one day. But in the meantime, you are already offering a table, a chair, and a conversation. And that’s much more than just coffee.

Thank you for taking the time to comment, Claude, it's appreciated.

I agree with you, the buy me a coffee as a kind of bonus, but in the meantime I will continue to create, etc.

Wishing you a fantastic day.

I didn't actually realise that 'Buy me a coffee' was company. So I just learnt something. I always assumed it was people setting up their own payment thing and just framing it as buy me a coffee.

I actually do have something set up on my site (which no one has bought me anything through yet) which is a stripe account and I have set up levels of how much people might want to fund the site and I've tried to connect the amounts to the silliness of my site. I'm not getting much traffic at all to my site so I probably can't help much, but if you do want to send me a link to your site I'd be happy to see if I have any ideas?
Cheers
Melissa

Thank you for your comment, Melissa, it's appreciated.

I understand where you're coming from, that does make sense. Some people use the PayPal button, but I was told that by me a coffee, comes over as less intrusive!

I believe that having traffic to a site makes a big difference, Melissa, especially when it comes down to something like buy me a coffee, etc. Regarding sending a link to my site, I can do, but YouTube gets a lot more traffic than my site does, even though I embed the videos, into my blog posts.

Have a fantastic day.

Try using PayPal. My site says, like what you read? Buy me a cup of coffee through PayPal.

It might be better because people know PayPal.

Thank you for taking the time to comment, John, I do appreciate it.

That's not a bad idea, in fact, it would be interesting to see what works best.

Have you received anything, John, through your PayPal link?

All the best.

Roy

2

No, I have received zero.

3

Thank you for confirming, John, it's appreciated.

However, at least it's there and as your traffic increases, it could well be used.

A friend of mine has a PayPal link on his website and that does get used.

Have a great day.
