Is ChatGPT Getting Better Again? My Latest Experience

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a blog post called "Has ChatGPT Gone Backwards... Or Is It Just Me?" As, quite honestly, I was becoming increasingly frustrated with it. If you didn't see the original post, you can read it below:

The reason I wrote it was simple, something had definitely changed, and not for the better. Tasks that had previously taken me around twenty minutes were suddenly taking between an hour and an hour and a half to complete. It wasn't just that everything was taking longer. The whole process became frustrating because straightforward jobs were turning into difficult ones, and I found myself spending more time correcting mistakes than actually getting useful work done.

As many of you know, like many of us, I use ChatGPT every day. It's become an important part of my workflow for writing YouTube descriptions, blog posts, social media content, brainstorming ideas and many other routine tasks. The fact that I use it so much, it didn't take long to realise that something wasn't right.

One of the biggest changes I noticed was with tasks it had been carrying out perfectly well for months. For example, I regularly ask it to create twenty-four titles for one of my projects. This had never been a problem before, but suddenly it would only produce eight titles at a time. Nothing in my prompt had changed and nothing about the task itself was any different, yet I found myself having to repeat the request two or three times just to achieve what had previously happened automatically.

There were also occasions when it claimed it didn't have permission to carry out certain tasks, even though those exact same tasks had been completed successfully for the previous six months. That made no sense at all and, if I'm honest, it left me wondering whether it was time to start looking seriously at other AI tools.

ChatGPT Has Suddenly Improved!

Over the last couple of days, or even three days, my experience has been very different. I don't know whether OpenAI has made changes behind the scenes, released an update or adjusted something else, but whatever has happened, ChatGPT seems much more like its old self. It still isn't perfect, and I'm sure there will continue to be the occasional issue, but conversations have become smoother, responses are more consistent and I'm spending far less time correcting mistakes.

I thought it was only fair to write this follow-up because it's easy to criticise software or things when they are causing problems, but it's just as important to acknowledge when things improve. My previous article reflected exactly how I felt at the time, and this one does the same. I'm not suggesting everything has suddenly become flawless, but the difference has been significant enough for me to notice, especially considering how heavily many of us, rely on ChatGPT every single day.

Technology moves incredibly quickly, particularly in the world of artificial intelligence. There will always be updates, improvements and the occasional setback. However, I don’t understand, how all of a sudden something can go so badly wrong, surely these updates should be tested?

Dare I say it, but it looks like things have smoothed out on ChatGPT, but let’s see what happens. If chat GPT starts playing up again, I will seriously think about looking at Claude or what other members suggest. I’m not willing to have three or four weeks of unnecessary torment and frustration, there is no point.

I'd be interested to hear whether anyone else has noticed the same thing. Has ChatGPT become more reliable for you recently, or has your experience been different, or like my previous experience? Have you changed from ChatGPT to another AI model?

Thank you for reading.
