Language has been my biggest challenge since arriving in WA.
Hello WA fam,
Today, I’ll be sharing how I’ve worked through my challenges since coming to WA. I’ll never forget the day my husband, Mel Waller, introduced me to WA. My first thought was that it wouldn’t be easy because of the language.
By the way, FYI I am a Filipina I was born and raised here in the Philippines.
When I first arrived here in WA, I was excited but also nervous. English wasn’t my first language, and I found it really hard to express myself. Simple conversations felt intimidating. I often stayed quiet, afraid of making mistakes.
That’s also why I’ve been a little hesitant to start blogging here in WA.
These are my questions in my head on the first day
How would I be able to communicate Properly?
How can build my website?
How can I blog a quality contents?
I’d write it all if I could, but I don’t want to give you all a headache. Hehe
Being here in WA has been such a blessing not just for earning, but for building my confidence in speaking English.
Anyway, to wrap up these personal challenges of mine my husband bought me a book to help improve my understanding of the English language. Now, we can even argue less thanks to fewer miscommunication issues. You might be wondering why this blog is kind of well-written it’s because I asked my husband to help, at least to check my grammar Hehe. I hope this blog can relate with some of you guys and before I end this, I want to leave a little reminder for everyone including me that has a language challenges.
"Learning a new language is never easy but every word you speak, every sentence you write, is a step forward. Don’t be afraid of mistakes; they’re proof that you’re trying, growing, and getting braver every day. You’re not alone in this journey, and your effort is something to be proud of. Keep going your voice matters, and the world is waiting to hear it."
That would be all for Today, Enjoy reading!

Thank you for writing this. It's good to support each other in our challenges. This is certainly a common one. I know people from several other countries who now live in the US and struggle to speak the language. Two of them are women from the Philippines who go to the same church with me.
While I don't struggle with English, I do study other languages and I'm sure I would feel just as awkward if I was writing primarily in one of those languages.
Thanks for telling us how it's going. You're doing great!
Good morning Wen,
The great thing is that you're not only learning how to build an online business, Wen, you are also improving your language at the same time. I appreciate that it's not easy learning any new language, I appreciate that some are easier than others. I'm currently learning Greek, which is kind of fascinating, but it does take time.
It's great that Mel is able to help you, Wen!
Wishing you every success in the great day.
Roy
I can relate to your language challenge. My first language is German and when I first came to England when I got married I felt just like you. I had studied English at school in Austria, but found it difficult to understand spoken English (with people's different accents) and speak it myself. But I did want to attend university. So I studied hard and it was at university that I was forced to write essays in English and learned fast.
I was fortunate that my husband was a teacher and kept correcting me when I made mistakes. It was annoying to be interrupted with grammar explanations when I was just trying to tell him something, but it proved very valuable.
Try to study a little bit every day. You will quickly improve.
Best wishes,
Isabella
I would like to say I commend you for learning the English Language. I would like to tell you how well you are doing. I have been on this Earth 57 years. I am originally from West Virginia in the United States. To those who may not know that is Between Virginia and Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. People have always made fun of the people from West Virginia calling us "Hillbillies", and saying we talked different. We speak English it just might not be refined. We use words like "aint", "used-ta-could". " ja-eat-yet" So I guess to some I would have to say you are doing way better than me. I always had trouble in school in English class, my primary language. I guess what I am trying to say is nobody is an expert at the English Language. Keep going I am one of your cheerleaders!!!
Hello Neal, I appreciate your honesty, your humor, and your kindness especially in sharing your own story about growing up in West Virginia and facing language judgments. It’s a powerful reminder that language isn’t just about grammar or refinement it’s about connection, culture, and being understood.
Your words made me feel seen and supported. I’m still learning, still stumbling sometimes, but messages like yours give me the strength to keep going. And knowing I have a cheerleader like you cheering me on? That’s the best motivation I could ask for.
