The Time When Australia Rained Gold
Hello to everyone in WA
As Jay would say, happy Friday, happy Saturday depending on where you are in the world
The gold rush in Australia in the 1800 was a big draw card for new immigrants to come to Australia in hope of striking it rich.
There where already many people already living in Australia rushed to get there to make the fortune, also over 40,000 Chinese and many from the gold rush in America came as well as they thought they could strike it rich here.
Now I'm going to talk mainly about my local gold rush sites, Bendigo & Ballarat but sure it was similar in New South Wales gold rush as well
Let's Find That Gold
It was just a mass of people heading into these areas to try to make their fortune, some did alright for them self and others not so much, the life was so hard and the rewards where few if any.
The rare few did get rich as they dug up some off the biggest gold nuggets in the world, others just worked themselves to the bone rather leaving broke and in despair or they died where they worked, some just collapsing to the ground or the shaft they where digging collapsed in on top of them buried them alive.
Many also died in fights over territory or drunken punch ups as where common during this time.
Work Smarter Not Harder
There was the rare few that came to the gold fields not to look for gold, they set up shops mostly in tents to see the supplies needed for the ones searching for gold
They new that every person on the gold field or the one coming in would need to get their shovels, rope and other things needed to survive
The General store owners and the ones setting up a Hotel to sell alcohol and food to the worn out people from the mines where the ones making the money, life was hard for everyone back then but they made the most of a bad thing as a way to make a living without risking their lives or the life of their family
There where many of these business that stayed in the area even after the gold rush was over, forming these small country towns into thriving cities to this day.
Gold Is Still A money Spinner In These Areas
Both Bendigo, Ballarat & a few other smaller towns still make money from gold, just in a different way as they are set up as if it still back in the gold rush day as a tourist attraction, drawing in thousands of people every year.
The picture above is from Sovereign Hill Ballarat as it is today, it is a complete gold mining town with actors on the street and people dressed in periods clothing in the shops selling only items made back then. There is also a mine shaft that you are able to go in and see a little of how it was at the time.
Oh Yes The WA Connection
After 40 years of working myself to the bone, digging carting bricks and lifting heavy beams into place by hand, yes in my day we did not get lifting equipment to make our life easier
So now I live the smart way with WA and its wonderful community, I now it will come reality in no time.
Working Smarter not harder is the only way new.
All the best and have a great weekend
Ross

History is great but I am sure was not good during those days. My Gold Rush is picking up Lottery tickets and hoping for that one time, still waiting.
I'm old school apparently because I still do things the hard way. I am always pushing myself to the limit. Can say the older I get the slower I get.
I have a few years before retirement and hope to be earning a good income with WA when that time gets here.
Thanks for sharing the post
Yes it would have been a hard life back then
I was old school as well for over 40 years, I'm happy that time is over
Thank you for your message and all the best with your WA journey

I loved this post, Ross! I am a history buff after all and your stories of the Australian Gold Rush intrigued me!
Jeff
I also love history especially our own, we don't learn it in school here it is a shame as we do have an interesting past and i love the good and the bad of it
Thank you so much Jeff for you great comment
Enjoy the rest of your weekend
Ross
Wow, that's a shame--I would've thought it would be a required learning subject, Ross!
Jeff
yes you would think so even as a fairly young country we have an amazing past and should be shared so the young can enjoy it as well

What an inspiring story from the past Ross and a great analogy to working at WA.
I find that too often I go for the shiny stuff, and end up being distracted. It takes wisdom to work smart instead of working hard.
Thanks so much for sharing today.
Have a blessed weekend.
