Week 1: Actions, Plugins and Images
Well that flew by! My first week here on WA and I have built a website:
This was my strategy, which others might find of help or interesting.
Firstly, I went to jaaxy.com and identified my keywords for the site and some others (and I also became distracted and took notes on other niches I identified. I love that keyword tool. I've paid to join, paying monthly, as I couldn't cope with having keyword terms hidden from me. I needed to know it all.
I've written some pages for the site, plus my first blog post. I have started the second which should be up later today. I've included the keyword in the title, the keyword in the first paragraph and then written about the keyword in the article. I've tried to do this with all pages.
I've watched the training here on WA too. Very helpful.
I opened a google analytics account and a google webmaster account for this website.
I've downloaded the plugins Google Analyticator. I love this as it gives a graphic display of visitors along with keywords they used to find you. It helps not having to login to analytics to get some info about traffic.
I opened a Bing webmaster account. I added "all in one webmaster" plugin so that I can verify the google and bing webmaster accounts very easily. In time, I will be able to add other webmaster accounts to this plugin for really easy verification. Now, I know that I can go to these accounts to obtain really detailed information about who is visiting and how they're finding me. I can also add site-maps to tell google and bing how and when to visit my site.
I went to fiverr.com and ordered three diagrams to fit my blog. Each is going to cost me $10. Not bad from a fully qualified doctor (which is perfect for what I need)! The last time I did this for a client, it was nearer $500! One has been delivered, the others are on their way. Very pleased os far.
I uploaded an amazing plugin for amazon from code canyon. This is a paid for app, but so far I am delighted with the appearance. I really didn't want my products to shout out, but to blend with the site and with a small amount of effort, I think Im on the way to obtaining this.
I already had an amazon associates account so I just added the details and the plugin has worked.
I added "pretty link" plugin so that I can cloak my affiliate links.
I moved the Privacy Policy page to the footer (by adding a footer menu) and I am looking up affiliate terms pages to add there. I think this is vital for a proper functioning website and to meet the laws surrounding affiliate sites.
I joined Clickbank.com and have added a link to a suitable product. I might change the location, but the link works. To add the image, I added another plugin called "wordpress ad widget" and this is very easy to use. All from the widgets page.
I also have had a look at the other types of affiliate offers available to me for this niche site. So much to do but I am pleased with week 1.
If you have any advice or comments, I would be delighted to here them. Thank you for reading, Catherine :-)
