Making Money from Home - My Journey So Far

So it's been about 2 months since I've started my career as an online businessman here at Wealthy Affiliate. I must say, while it's still a very new endeavour for me, I'm pleased with my progress thus far. Two months ago, I had nothing to my name. Now I have a fully functional site that's beginning to get daily traffic and recognition.

First a little about Me!

When I graduated from Computer Programming 3 years ago, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, including getting a job as a computer programmer. I just couldn't see myself slaving away for money that didn't even seem worth it by the end of the day. When I came across affiliate marketing, I was super excited about the idea. Putting all my learned skills to use for my own personal business and future was very attractive and appealing to me!

The Money Aspect - Work Hard, It Will Come

With regards to the money however, I haven't made any yet. This is the only thing that I consider my daily battle. Making money is the reason everyone gets into any business. The downfall in working for yourself, means at first, you will not see any money at all. Ask anyone who's started a business, they never made profit in their first few months (sometimes years). It takes time. In an online world, people want help from real people that they trust. If you want to be successful online, you have to show everyone who you really are and that you are honest, and trustworthy.

My Analogy for Understanding

Think of it as going to a store to buy an item. I'm not talking simple items like groceries, I'm talking about purchases that don't happen everyday - TV's, jewellery, furniture, etc. When you go to the store, you don't like dealing with the sales guy that is throwing the best items at you just to grab the sale, you want help from someone who is not only knowledgeable about the product, but understands you and your needs, and builds a rapport with their clients. The store is your site, the great sales guy is you, and the customer is, well, the customer! This is the mentality any online business person must have in order to be successful. And this is what I think I'm slowly starting to achieve - hence me being pleased so far without making money yet.

Managing My Site

Using Google Analytics, I've been able to view the traffic coming into my site, and for someone who's just started off, I think my numbers are pretty respectable. My hard work and dedication so far has paid off physically, I just need to stay dedicated and positive so my hard work can start paying off financially as well!

Wordpress is an extremely powerful tool! Using Wordpress to create my site has made it extremely easy to be user friendly, attractive and informative all at the same time! Not to mention fun! The Wordpress user-interface (UI) is extremenly intuitive and user friendly. If you can fully harness the power of Wordpress, your success is limitless. The things you learn about Wordpress here at Wealthy Affiliate through the lesson plans, are all extremely beneficial to your success!

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the bread an butter of any successful online business. If you have put in the time and effort in researching keywords and targeting them in your writing, you will have no problem reaching your goals. There are a few great tools to help you out with finding your keywords and targeting the "low hanging fruit" keywords. The tool I use is Jaaxy. It's designed with the novice user in mind. Simply sign in, and search for the keywords you want and go from there. There is no limit to whatever you want to do online, so be creative and constantly update your site!

In Conclusion

All in all, my journey has been very beneficial. I've learnt so much everyday since starting out here at Wealthy Affiliate. Aside from the learning plans with very informational lessons, it is an online community like no other. Everyone here is trying to start a successful online business and there is always healthy discussion on how to improve and new things to learn!
