Affiliate Goal Setting: How I went from Dollars to Data, to Just Showing Up
2
I was thinking about goals this morning. A program I’ll be promoting pays Net 90 changing to Net 30 after getting 3 sales monthly. Seems like a good goal to go after.
So I worked backwards, looking up stats for cold traffic to product pages and I see “average conversion” being 0.5% to 1%. I assume a 1% CTR.
Based on those assumptions, the goal to reach 3 sales monthly would be to increase traffic to 60,000 monthly unique hits across related posts. That seems an impossible feat lol.
I'll stick to my original goal of getting 50 posts published.
That'll complete the core training.

Great post, Robert! I used to focus on hitting a dollar amount, but I realized that without solid content and traffic, conversions wouldn’t happen. I’ve shifted my goals to process-based ones—publishing 100+ posts, building authority, and letting traffic grow naturally. The big numbers can seem overwhelming, but breaking it down into smaller wins (10 posts, then 25, then 50) makes it manageable. My focus now is momentum—showing up consistently and building a strong foundation.
How are you tracking your progress?
Are you focusing purely on getting the 50 posts done first?
Shawn
Cheers Shawn. That's it - a "process-based" approach. I like that. More control over it.
I'm sticking to the "Core Training". The only goal is to complete it. I like how the goals are built-in. I'm currently at the last stage of phase 3, working toward publishing the 15th post. When I'm not writing posts, I peak into phase 4 lessons to see the bigger picture. Once I get to 15 posts, it's then social media, then 25 posts, then 50. I like the structure.
Sounds like a solid plan! Sticking to the Core Training and taking a structured, process-based approach is definitely the way to go. Hitting that 15-post milestone is huge, and it’s great that you’re already looking ahead to social media and scaling up to 25 and 50 posts. That kind of consistency is what builds long-term success. Keep at it—you’re on the right track!
