Site Ranking Factors That Contribute To Optimal Ranking

Hi Folks

I get asked the same question from new members about SEO every week and although I point the members to other of my blogs on SEO those questions still come fast and furious.

Once more I will outline the steps that I believe are a must to achieve a decent rank with the search engines.

First of all there are some main points to focus on:

Keywords

URL

Text Description

Meta Tags

Title Tags

ALT Tags

Heading Tags

Content Hyperlinks

The focus of these steps is to load your site with as many "keywords" as possible. (not all on the same page of course)

Keywords: Are the most important aspect of good SEO, these are what tells the search engines what your website content is all about.

Choose keywords that best relate to the information, products or services that you are promoting.

However, most people don't just search with just one word, they type phrases. Therefore you should consider the phrases that best suit your sites target audience.

The most important thing to remember is that your content of each page should be different, so only use keywords associated to that page's content. Absolutely no point in confusing the readers.

Your URL Text: This is taken from whatever you have as a title so why not use your Main Keyword? WHY? Because the URL is the first thing a search engine comes across when indexing your pages.

Description Meta Tags: These tags are losing some of their previous importance since Search Engines are now looking at content. However, every little counts, and you should optimize your Description Meta Tag to match your content.

Title Tags: These are the tags that tell the Search Engine the title, or formal description of the document or page. This is the word or phrase that is seen at the top of the browser window. The most important rule about title tags is, always, and without exception do not put anything in the Title Tag but your Main Keyword.

Alt Tags: Keywords that you should attach to images. This gives more weight to the image since Search Engines can't analyze the image itself. Make sure you insert a good keyword.

Heading Tags: These are associated with the bold font that leads into a section of text.

Your Heading Tags should only be keywords, and should be presented in the order that your Meta Tags follow.

H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6

I personally usually don't go beyond H3 but on occasion I will use the H4.

If you want to, you can use all six heading tags to ensure maximum page optimization.

Hyperlinks: These are text links to other pages on your site. The rules of SEO and hyperlinks are simple.

• Use hyperlinks so the Search Engine will have a text link to follow to the next page or to further information on another site

• Don't use one word links, use long descriptive phrases, and preferably using secondary keyword phrases

• Use bullets, or some sort of small image that you can attach an ALT tag to, this will give more importance to the link.
