At Home Business Opportunity - How To Choose

Last Update: November 13, 2016

Deciding On A Home Business Opportunity

Hello Folks

I thought I was finished with this type of blog but it seems not because I'm still getting asked by new members - "How Do I Get Started" or "What Can I Make Money From".

Most Jobs Can Be Turned Into A Work At Home Jobs

For example, many secretaries and administrative assistants get paid to work online. They jumped at the chance to take the opportunity to work from home that are on offer for people with their particular skill-set. They have entered the world of home based internet jobs by becoming “virtual assistants” who perform freelance administrative tasks from home.

The market is wide open and the demand for working from home is getting more and more popular. This blog will offer some ideas in choosing a small home business opportunity.

Here are a few pointers;

Write Down Suggestions

Here is where you can be wild and creative. Make three independent lists. First, think about (and write down) everything you ever desired to do from home, as your own business. Now list exactly what you know you have both interests and talents in. Make a third set of the skills that you have that others could have a need for.

Research Is A Must

After you have that list, go to the internet, and get started on looking up various websites that deal with work from home businesses. Some of these sites gives you lists of many ideas. Find some of them, and then, using the list that you already made, get more ideas to either add to it, or refine some of your ideas into further categories. For example, you have a talent for and a desire to write. You will find quite a few ideas for writers that are home based. You may find there's a great demand for resume writers, content writer for web articles, and perhaps copy-editing. You might add in some similar things that you will also see, like website design, or virtual assistant.

Select 1 Or Two Options

Via this list you should now be able to reduce your options to one or two that stand out. Do some more research to do two things:

1. Get some ideas as to what it will take to get started in that form of business

2. Find out how much you might expect to realistically make from that kind of business.

Cost Effective Financial Planning

This will help one to see whether or not you should pursue that kind of business, and also what you have to work with for a budget. Some money should be kept aside in the event that things do not go according to plan. Plainly speaking, not every home business is a success.

Prepare to Get Started

Once you have decided on what kind of business you want to do then you have to preparation is need to get yourself and your business up and running.

Of course you want to do it right. Don't forget you have to create a website and of course you have to get known so you have an online presence.

To be able to start out a little more efficiently, there is lots of information that can be found online from books such as -

Getting Rich in Your Underwear

The Best Home Businesses for the 21st Century

101 Internet Businesses You Can Start From Home

How to Start and Run a Profitable Home-Based Business

You can actually buy these at Amazon at reasonable cost. Look on them as an investment for your future success.

To Recap - Remember and be introspective: When attempting to decide which home based business option is for you. Think about your past work-related experiences. Make a list of what you enjoyed. What you definitely don’t want to do again. What you are good at. And that old favourite - Hobbies/Interests

There you go now and I'm absolutely sure I wont have to publish a blog like this again.

Please bookmark for future use to ensure I don't.

Thank you and have a great weekend.

Robert,

The part of the journey that has been so revealing for me is the self-growth and realization!

Talk about living all this time as someone I do not even recognize now! No wonder the process is taking a while.

Lazy is my name at the moment. We had three months of rain over winter and so far 2.5 over spring with just the odd sunny day thrown in. I am trying to paint window frames and am now 5.5 months behind as the paint isn't able to dry!

Ok but is your house built yet?
If so how on earth do you paint a house built of straw?
Enjoy your Monday.
I'm off out now as its busy busy Monday for me.

Robert, unfortunately my partner has proved almost useless. We are own builders but all his participation appears to be in his mind. So I had to pay for people to do what he could have done and I ran out of money. I am doing things piecemeal now.

I really want to get going here but at the moment the atmosphere here isn't really conducive to burying myself in website building. I am working in fits and starts. Oh well, I will finish it or not. If not we will have to sell an 80% complete house and most likely never recover (mostly) my money.

But that's my issue and the sun is out so I am going over to paint today if the temperature actually gets to the forecast one. (Last month of spring and still hovering in the 10 - 14 degree C range!)

Hi Stephen and yes if anything is worth having there is always a price to pay, which of course doesn't always have to be in money terms.

Yes, I read the part about secretaries and administrative assistants working from home. I wish my job had such a thing! However, I have looked into virtual assistant positions and researched them.

No probs Karin and if they're not for you that's ok.
You look around until you do find something suitable.
It can take a wee while to hit on that one thing where you have the light-bulb moment.
