Wealthy Affiliate and the Naysayers: Just Keep Going
Shut Out the Noise
How many of you are dealing with the non-believers while working like mad behind the scenes to learn affiliate marketing - all with the dream of earning passive income?
When you decide to build something for yourself, especially online — and especially if you’ve paid to do it — you’ll almost always hear:
"That’ll never work."
"It’s a scam."
"It’s too late to start."
“What’s Affiliate marketing?”
"Why don’t you just get a proper job?"
It’s funny how quick people are to criticise things they don’t even understand - especially if you’re trying to change direction in life. Maybe just because. Or maybe because life forced you to start over and rebuild from scratch.
In my case, it was age and health concerns getting in the way. Too old to be laying bricks etc.
So I took stock of what I had: a few PCs, printers, software… and what I thought was a reasonable knowledge of computers and the internet.
Turns out, I was mostly a consumer - not a creator.
I knew how to use computers, apps, and tools… but not how to build with them.
What most people don’t realise - especially those who’ve never tried building anything in the online world — is that the learning is actually exciting. Maybe even addictive, in a good way.

Now sure, for someone with an IT background, or who’s worked as a tech or programmer, this might all feel second nature. I’ve known plenty of those types, especially after years of living in one of IBM’s old USA hubs before they shipped jobs to Texas and even overseas.
Back then, I thought old-school programmers were all a bit nerdy.
These days, the code looks friendlier. The tools are easier (I think!).
But even so, this world isn’t for everyone. It takes time - sometimes a lot of time.
But that’s the beauty of it: you learn at your own pace.
My only tip? Try not to lose your momentum by taking long breaks. Keep moving, even if it’s slow.
I’ve been there.
Heard it.
Ignored most of it.
Sometimes believed it… briefly.
But I kept going anyway.
And all of a sudden, things started to click. The learning curve kicked in. It got easier. It even got fun.
At some point, I realised the loudest voices weren’t building anything.
They weren’t writing blog posts at midnight.
They weren’t setting up pages, checking links, fixing layout bugs, or learning SEO.
But I was.
They weren’t trying to turn experience into income.
They weren’t taking the knocks and still showing up the next day.
I didn’t come to WA expecting instant success - though I was hoping for it.
I came to build something real. Something I could shape, own, and trust.
I came to move forward - not backwards.
So if you’ve got naysayers around you, here’s what I’ve learned:
They probably scared to even try it out, never mind make money from e-commerce.
You don’t have to convince them - especially if you’re enjoying what you’re doing.
And it’s okay to pivot from where you first started. Just like you would if your job wasn’t working out.
You only have to prove it to yourself.
Well… maybe to your bank account eventually, too. 😉
Yes, things have changed in the way its best to do things, but it is still totally doable.
One post, one page, one small win at a time.
So just stick with it.
You might just surprise yourself.
Take care all.
