As my first anniversary at Wealthy Affiliate draws near, I’ve been thinking back over the past year. It’s been a big year of change, not just for me personally, but for Wealthy Affiliate and the affiliate marketing world as a whole.
So, this post is part reflection, part reminder, almost like I’m talking out loud to myself, taking stock of what I’ve learned, where I’ve grown, and what I’ve achieved. Maybe some of it will resonate with others, too. I’ve shared pieces of my journey before, but I know how easy it is for content to get buried in the WA archives (I didn’t even know how to use the magnifying glass search tool when I first joined!).
Around March last year, I joined a different and very expensive platform. It promised a lot but quickly felt like a modern version of pyramid sales (my words). You were encouraged to spend money, attend endless vision calls and upsell sessions, and in the end, I was left with stacks of printed material and a sense that I didn’t belong. Borrowing money just to “level up” didn’t sit right with me.

So, I walked away, searched again, and stumbled across Wealthy Affiliate. I was sceptical at first, who wouldn’t be after that experience? But it didn’t take long to spot the difference. WA felt real. Tangible. Honest. There were actual takeaways from day one. And just like that, I was hooked.
Now, looking back, two things stand out as my biggest wins so far:
- Learning the value of quality content: how blog posts and other writing form the backbone of online success.
- Grasping SEO: not just what it is, but how it plays a crucial role in whether or not you actually get found.
Of course, I didn’t make it easy on myself by starting during a time of huge changes from Google (algorithm). It felt like the rulebook kept shifting just as I was starting to understand it. I’ve had to learn SEO more than once and I’m still learning.
But I still thoroughly enjoy the journey, just wish there was more hours in the day!
I am going to post more key points as they come to mind in the next few weeks. Enlightening others or reminding some.
